Must-own, but not well-known

I loved Pan's Labryinth but I guess some love it, some hate it and some don't understand it. I loved it, my Gf hated it.

Oh, I really enjoyed the movie itself, but not the horrendous treatment given to it.

The girl's face reminds me of some sort of topographical map. Blotch of solid bland white, encircled by a different shade of blotch, which itself is encircled . . .

If all of his movies were given decent transfers, as with the Orphanage, then I would already own Cronos as well.

I wasn't making any judgment on the content. The PQ it deserves just wasn't there. At all. Disclaimer: I haven't seen Patton.

josten, true the PQ was not the best, but will say that the SQ is by far one of the best of not reference material Blurays out there. Just awesome in SQ.

I just picked up Donnie Darko on BD, but haven't watched it yet. One of my favorites, but I definitely wouldn't call that a must own - it isn't for everyone because it is SOOOO out there.

I will throw in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - good flick. I don't own it, but it is worth a look.

PQ doesn't bother me on Pan's, but the real disappointment wasn't the DNR for me, it was that it basically doesn't look any better than the SD DVD. It is still a very good movie and worth it even with the shortcomings of the video mastering. It is about the movie, not the PQ

I would throw in Requiem for a Dream, but I would say that is not really for everyone either.

You will have to let me know how the Donnie Darko BD is. I was wondering if it had the Extended Director's Cut on it, or just the theatrical one. I like them both, but they are almost different movies.

I thought of a couple more good ones that I like. Both of them are post-jail Robert Downey Jr. films:

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - It seems like few have heard of this one, but it has lots of humor and action, a hot girl, and some pretty entertaining chemistry between RDJ and Val Kilmer.

A Scanner Darkly - This one is interesting, and very enjoyable, but not for everyone. That is all I can say.

Donnie Darko BD is supposed to have both extended cut and the original. I haven't see the extended, but haven't heard good things about it from fans.

I liked both Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and A Scanner Darkly.

Fair enough. Just a note nonetheless, the far edgier international cut, Leon, is quite a bit different (in a good way, IMO) than the American one, titled the Professional, which would probably be the more mainstream version.

Unlike Boondock Saints, my minuscule social circle had never heard of it until I introduced them to it, so I assumed it wasn't mainstream .

I much preferred Leon to the US version as well, but the fundamentals of the movie didn't change, they just didn't cut out a lot of good scenes. That is one of my favorite movies of all time. You and your circle have good taste in movies

Ah, yes, my favs the Coens. I really liked Hudsucker Proxy as far as their comedies, and their first film Blood Simple is an excellent thriller. Hell, I like all their films.

this boys life deniro plays dicaprios evil step father...great flick not well known....also bronx tale with deniro and chaz pilminiteri is my all time favorite. It is about a young boy growing up in the bronx who is influenced by the neighborhood gangsters 4 stars

I didn't really like Ghost Dog. Looked good, but was kind of a let down for me. I haven't seen Bubba Ho-Tep, might have to put that on Netflix too.

It is weird, but strangely enjoyable. I haven't seen the Evil Deads or Army of Darkness, so I didn't know what to expect, though I'm not sure weather it would have helped.
