Must-own, but not well-known

Of all the movies listed here, I would pick Equilibrium is the best one; too bad it's not available on blu-ray yet.
I heard a rumor that it is coming this year, but no release date and no "official" confirmation that it will be. We can hope :)

Basic with John Travolta and Sam Jackson.

Che. Not out yet, probably won't be until Summer.

The Motorcycle Diaries. If you know Spanish, an easy watch. If not, the subs are well done.

City of God. Great movie. Subs aren't that great but good enough to be understood.

Maybe I'll think of more...

Twilight Watch was Wanted...:D I read the reviews as both Night and Daywatch were released on BD and both got fairly bad reviews. I enjoyed Wanted though.

I want to add: I'll Sleep When I'm Dead featuring Clive Owen. It is a little slow, but still a good action-mob type independent flick. Worth a rental IMO. I saw this a while back, right around the time that Children of Men came out as a blind rental.

I am amazed at how many people who have not seen the comedy classic "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" with how many stars this movie had and how hilarious it is, my mouth drops everytime someone says, "What movis is that?"

If you like sifting through british slang, Green Street Hooligans is worth a watch and Layer Cake is a pretty good flick, worth owning, it made me love Daniel Craig.

A really stupid comedy is Rolling Kansas. I quote that movie so often it's rediculous.

Can't think of anything else right now.

Lay3r Cak3 is a good one. I picked it up as a blind buy on a recommendation when it was on sale and I really enjoyed it. Green Street Hooligans showed up on my netflix, so I may have to check it out.

Noticed that there is no anime on the list.

Ghost in the Shell

Something that is not too out there and yet thought provoking ... (for me at least) The Japanese DTS track is spectacular too.

I think that is because we have an anime thread started by Mike C. I don't see why we couldn't have anime in here too though.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence just came out on Blu-ray and there is supposed to be a total remaster of the first one, overseen by Oshi, coming as well.

Wristcutters - Sometimes I'm in the mood for a small, strange movie with a sense of place. In this case, somewhere in the California desert, where you go when you commit suicide to serve out your time in purgatory. It's just like real life except much more boring. An eccentric cast of characters, all of them suicides, including a character built around Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello (fortunately he's very much still alive in the real world) and Tom Waits as something like God or St Peter. The movie has an ex-girlfriend, a new girlfriend, a charlatan guru and a bunch of other weirdos with missing scalps, drug ODs and other remains of the suicide. See it if you're in the mood for low-key strangeness.

Based on this thread, I watched Let the Right One In last night on BD and completely enjoyed it. Very well done, though a bit weird.

Anyone that liked Donnie Darko will probably like Primer as well. You can watch it instantly on Netflix.

I saw the first 2 minutes of this after one of the hockey games yesterday. Didn't look all that great, but I didn't see much.
