This tiny hunk of a state, not known for much more than beautiful ocean vistas, verdant forests, Lewis and Clark, and the invention of the hacky sack, set a couple of college football records on Saturday.

The University of Oregon plays football at Autzen Stadium. The crowd set the record for loudest fan noise at any such game ever measured...128.5 dB!!! Take THAT, USC! ;)

Portland State (which recently hired Jerry Glanville as its new coach) played Weber State Saturday. The two teams set a record for the most points scored in a football game...any division...141 points (!!) in Portland State's loss, 73-68. Incidentally, PSU's qb is a freshman and was playing his first game. He also set a record by throwing for 9 (!!) touchdowns.

Who brought all this testosterone to the northwest?! :D

LOL, next year Oregon will have to upgrade their schedule to include Akron, Kent State, and that powerhouse, Youngstown State! ;) (BTW, OU has the 6th toughest schedule in the nation this year. Doesn't exactly mirror OSU I guess. :p)

But you are correct. Next week should be a great game. ASU's defense is really good and on a par with USC's. But this Oregon offensive juggernaut is only stopped by itself. Have you actually watched an entire OU game this year, BEF1? Dennis Dixon...oh my. Does Vince Young ring a bell?

OSU looked much better beating Penn St. than they have in earlier games I've watched. It looks like the offense is coming of age and they have huge potential upside. I put them right up there with ASU...unbeaten and untested. Love to meet you in January. But LSU might have other plans. They are still the team to beat for the National Championship, me thinks.
Now I can say I watched an entire OU game, as well as the LSU game. I'll put OU over LSU in the polls without a hitch. LSU makes a lot of offensive mistakes, and it seems their players get injured rather easily. OU looks very good - a polished team.

How about Kansas putting up over 70 points today!

If the BC & FSU score holds up, then LSU will move up and their last 3 games are against un-ranked teams. Therefore, IMO that will provide their ticket to the BCS game. Albeit, 2 games are against SEC opponents and IMO that's the best conference in college football with 7 teams in the top 25.

I think LSU has a good team. But they are lucky to have won any or all of their last 4 games. Not a #2 in my mind. As BEF1 says, they make too many mistakes. The PAC-10 would argue with you about the SEC being so tough. Cal whacked Tennessee pretty good this year, as an example. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Oregon is #2 tomorrow.

Have you watched an Oregon game yet? There is likely no better player in college than Dennis Dixon.

It pains me to say it, but Oregon is a better football team that my beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. That said, hopefully they will stay 3 or drop another game, cause I don't want to meet up with them in the NCG. Not that LSU would be an easy game, but I think we'd be in for a drubbing if we faced up against the Ducks. Just one person's perspective after watching 12 hours of football today.

Yeah, I watched all day today, too. I think the missus is ready for a divorce ...or her own new plasma tv!

Well I did some homework this morning:eek:. LSU have beaten 5 teams ranked in the top 25(VA TECH, FLA, AUBURN, ALABAMA,S.CAROLINA). Their only loss was on the road to Kentucky in OT! Now granted CAL(when they were good) did beat TENN in week 1 at home so I guess the PAC 10 has bragging rights. As far as who will be #2 we'll find out today;).

NOTE!!
My BCS game would be OU vs. LSU;). I know the Buckeyes are ranked #1 but IMO last years team was better(sorry Todd:eek:) and they got thumped by the Gators and still have to play @ Michigan who have something to prove.

I thought the purpose of that network was to spread the gospel of the Big 10 and broadcast all the games to the far corners of the earth.

The man is a great player! He'll be a draft pick after next year, unless he decides to go for the gusto and head pro after this season...truly a joy to watch. As long as he stays healthy and continues to befuddle defenses with the option offense, no one is going to stop Oregon's offense. Ohio looks good, but Oregon's offense is potent.

Let me rephrase something...he's a joy to watch when he plays against anyone except my Devils...:( (ASU could have won that game. These two teams playing a series would be like tossing a quarter and calling head/tails.)

I think the BCS rankings are the most correct it's been all season. The Coaches and AP Polls have been consistently more accurate.

We're gonna end up with an Ohio/LSU championship game, barring a breakdown on the field. All three teams end the year against unranked opponents. It should be Ohio/Oregon

Pat...Dixon is a senior and will go pro after this year...likely being drafted in the top 10 and owning the Heisman Trophy. He's also a pro baseball player...so he has options. The Ducks have lost 6 starters for the year already (the two flankers, the wing back, and three inside linebackers...all with ACL's or broken ankles)...it was tough watching Dixon limp off the field. But apparently it's only a knee strain. The one guy they hauled off the field yesterday was the best linebacker Oregon has. He's gone for the year too with an ACL.

The Devils DO have a good team and deserved that ranking. But I think we'll have OSU and Oregon in the championship game. Oregon has already played 3 top ten teams, which the computer nerds at the BCS love. LSU still has to play the conference championship game, I think. They are not a solid team and can lose at any time...and I think will. OSU is coming of age in these last couple of games. I think they'll smoke Michigan. I hope you get your wish with OSU vs. Oregon. If not...then it's Oregon vs. LSU, IMHO. :)

Maybe I should...ummm...pay closer attention to detail?!

My ultimate wish would be for ASU to be in the championship game. But, that's not likely to happen!

Well...it has been a goofy year, so you never know what will happen. But it is really unlikely. And ASU still has some tough games ahead. They had not faced any top teams until last week. We'll see the real ASU when they face USC....the real Ohio State when they face Michigan (who Oregon trounced, but is looking better as the season wears on).

Thank your cable provider for that one. Dish and Direct useres did not have that problem :)

This will help push the case further for open market cable in Wisconsin.

Ohio State plays Michigan in Ann Arbor. That will be a tough game. That is not an easy place to play at.

I think Oregon's Strength and Conditioning coaches need to look at why their players are having so many ACL injuries. That many fairly close together starts looking suspicious. It could just be coincidence though.
