After a visit to Kyiv, Boris Johnson wrote that Ukrainians have the courage of a lion
But now, we would like to celebrate the courage of the Prime Minister of Great Britain, the first G7 leader to visit Kyiv during the war

"You know, I still can't believe that Volodya is no longer with us... For some reason, I think that Volodya is still somewhere nearby, we just don't see him. And already from heaven, he will help us to keep destroying and eliminating the enemy from our homeland."

With these words, Volodymyr Balyuk, the chief sergeant of 80 separate landing — assault company of Armed Forces of Ukraine, Airborne assault troops, has been mentioned by his fellow.

He died heroically in the battle with the enemy in southern Ukraine. However, the group commanded by Volodymyr managed to destroy 4 landing combat vehicles together with the invaders. For his courage, heroism, resilience and determination, he was posthumously awarded the title of the Hero of Ukraine.

None of us wants to believe in the death of our brave soldiers. Each of us wants them to be around. With the relatives, family, friends. May they see the victory of the free Ukraine.
Eternal memory to the heroes who died defending our Motherland!

A new vodka brand in honor of the Ukrainian president — Vodka Zelensky — has been introduced in Switzerland.

The main goal of the creators of this project was to help Ukraine and Ukrainians. Therefore, the funds from the sale will be donated to charity.

The vodka can be purchased in Switzerland, Germany and the United Kingdom.

❗ Chemical weapons might have been found in the Sumy region at the positions left by the Russian troops, says the mayor of Trostianets Yuri Bova

"We found the remains of chemical weapons in the village of Bilka - sarin and other substances. We have found ampoules. The Security Service of Ukraine is currently working on it. It is possible that the occupiers wanted to use these chemicals in Kyiv, Poltava or other cities”, said Bova.

Have read reports that after Moskva sank, Putin has ordered the additional use of long range bombers to the number of sorties. Unfortunately, there will more more threats from the air.

In history, the loss of a prominent ship in wartime can send a nation into a frenzy of mourning and revenge seeking. After the loss of the HMS Hood in WW2, Churchill and the UK public reacted with great emotion. AKA, a wounded bear can be more dangerous.

Ref: "Sinking of Tirpitz during WW2"

One of the most scary things could be if putler is into a corner with no escape route.... then he becomes even more dangerous!

Good- bombers are relatively easy to shoot down. If they get to send bombers to Ukraine airspace, Ukraine get to send fighters to Russian airspace to intercept, IMO.

"Revenge-seeking"- a bit ironic, don't you think?

Moskva sinks, Russia says "Was fire onboard- everyone OK" and the next thing they do is bomb the shyte out of Ukraine in clear retaliation. If Ukraine didn't sink it, what is the reason for retaliating?

Absolutely right. Logic, Reason, and Truth can be the first casualties of war. Their media masters are turning into pretzels spinning this one.

LIBERATION WITHOUT VICTORY
In a wide-ranging conversation at his compound in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tells The Atlantic what Ukraine needs to survive—and describes the price it has paid.

By Anne Applebaum and Jeffrey Goldberg

If Ukraine is to have a secure future, he says, the Russian information barrier will have to be broken. Russians don’t just need access to facts; they need help understanding their own history, what they have done to their neighbors. At the moment, Zelensky says, “they are afraid to admit guilt.” He compares them to “alcoholics [who] don’t admit that they are alcoholic.” If they want to recover, “they have to learn to accept the truth.” Russians need leaders they choose, leaders they trust, “leaders who can then come in and say, ‘Yes, we did that.’ That’s how it worked in Germany.”

You can’t be serious about what Russian politicians and Lukashenko say every day. If you take it seriously, you might as well go and hang yourself.”

This reminds me of the famous quote: "Every nation gets the government it deserves." Joseph Maistre, Letter 76, on the topic of Russia's new constitutional laws (27 August 1811); published in Lettres et Opuscules.

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Joseph_de_Maistre

Although the version by H.L. Menken also has some appeal: “People deserve the government they get, and they deserve to get it good and hard.”

On the other hand, if the quotes above are "true" in some general sense, perhaps Russia needs a government it doesn't actually deserve, namely, a government that is honest, transparent, respects human rights, and is not fixated on fairy tale versions of history.

This morning I saw this photo, published by BBC News, and also on The Drive. It was originally on Twitter, perhaps posted by someone on the Turkish vessel that rescued some 54 sailors from the water. (The photo on The Drive shows more detail, but was too large to load here.)

It shows what appears to be a damaged Slava class cruiser, probably the Moskva, listing to port, adrift on a calm sea, pouring out black smoke. Fires are visible along side the central superstructure on the port-side, as well as damage to the hull below the top of the freeboard and probably below the waterline. This is consistent with a strike by sea-skimming cruise missiles. This is also the same area where at least one pair of the Moskva's 8 pairs of large missile launch tubes (4 on each side) are located. Detonation of the warheads or fuel of these P-500 or P-1000 missiles could cause the major destruction visible in the photo.

Life boats & rafts are not there, apparently launched, and the helicopter bay doors are left open.

Compare it to this 2012 photo of the Moskva.

Menken's quote has great appeal. Maybe more tailored to a country that was free with an educated population that ended up voting in a tyranny. That the people would deserve for allowing it to happen.

As for the Russian people, they have no history of freedom of speech, nor an educated population outside of Soviet propaganda and it's successors in schools. The Soviets did do a good job in the field of STEM, hell they got into space but with the help of captured German scientists. Lenin took away all their guns after revolution of 1917. It suffices to say that with out a 1st or 2nd amendment as we in the US know it, the people are at the mercy of their rulers. Unless there is a total surrender as in Germany and Japan in 1945 we in the West are not going to impose anything outside of a nuclear war. The Russians are going to have to shoot their way to a new government.

Old quote from a Judge Parker of the DC court from a 1988 1st amendment case is pretty spot on.
"The US was founded by people whose views were considered subversive and who offered what the establishment regarded as unacceptable views" Those people had to shoot there way to freedom.
