With these words, Volodymyr Balyuk, the chief sergeant of 80 separate landing — assault company of Armed Forces of Ukraine, Airborne assault troops, has been mentioned by his fellow.

He died heroically in the battle with the enemy in southern Ukraine. However, the group commanded by Volodymyr managed to destroy 4 landing combat vehicles together with the invaders. For his courage, heroism, resilience and determination, he was posthumously awarded the title of the Hero of Ukraine.

None of us wants to believe in the death of our brave soldiers. Each of us wants them to be around. With the relatives, family, friends. May they see the victory of the free Ukraine.

this is pretty scary.... my wife is showing me the Ukrainian Telegram thread "Ukraine NOW" where all the alerts are being transmitted ..... there can be moments where there is 16 to 20 simultanious flight alerts across Ukraine..... every day, it´s simply insane

Chemical weapons might have been found in the Sumy region at the positions left by the Russian troops, says the mayor of Trostianets Yuri Bova

"We found the remains of chemical weapons in the village of Bilka - sarin and other substances. We have found ampoules. The Security Service of Ukraine is currently working on it. It is possible that the occupiers wanted to use these chemicals in Kyiv, Poltava or other cities”, said Bova.

Have read reports that after Moskva sank, Putin has ordered the additional use of long range bombers to the number of sorties. Unfortunately, there will more more threats from the air.

Everything crazy as always... I seen all this talk from the russian nazis that sinking of "moscow" is considered attack on russia.... just wonder how many hundred rockets has been launched from this warship.

Good- bombers are relatively easy to shoot down. If they get to send bombers to Ukraine airspace, Ukraine get to send fighters to Russian airspace to intercept, IMO.

You can’t be serious about what Russian politicians and Lukashenko say every day. If you take it seriously, you might as well go and hang yourself.”

This reminds me of the famous quote: "Every nation gets the government it deserves." Joseph Maistre, Letter 76, on the topic of Russia's new constitutional laws (27 August 1811); published in Lettres et Opuscules.

On the other hand, if the quotes above are "true" in some general sense, perhaps Russia needs a government it doesn't actually deserve, namely, a government that is honest, transparent, respects human rights, and is not fixated on fairy tale versions of history.

This morning I saw this photo, published by BBC News, and also on The Drive. It was originally on Twitter, perhaps posted by someone on the Turkish vessel that rescued some 54 sailors from the water. (The photo on The Drive shows more detail, but was too large to load here.)

It shows what appears to be a damaged Slava class cruiser, probably the Moskva, listing to port, adrift on a calm sea, pouring out black smoke. Fires are visible along side the central superstructure on the port-side, as well as damage to the hull below the top of the freeboard and probably below the waterline. This is consistent with a strike by sea-skimming cruise missiles. This is also the same area where at least one pair of the Moskva's 8 pairs of large missile launch tubes (4 on each side) are located. Detonation of the warheads or fuel of these P-500 or P-1000 missiles could cause the major destruction visible in the photo.

Life boats & rafts are not there, apparently launched, and the helicopter bay doors are left open.

Menken's quote has great appeal. Maybe more tailored to a country that was free with an educated population that ended up voting in a tyranny. That the people would deserve for allowing it to happen.

As for the Russian people, they have no history of freedom of speech, nor an educated population outside of Soviet propaganda and it's successors in schools. The Soviets did do a good job in the field of STEM, hell they got into space but with the help of captured German scientists. Lenin took away all their guns after revolution of 1917. It suffices to say that with out a 1st or 2nd amendment as we in the US know it, the people are at the mercy of their rulers. Unless there is a total surrender as in Germany and Japan in 1945 we in the West are not going to impose anything outside of a nuclear war. The Russians are going to have to shoot their way to a new government.

Old quote from a Judge Parker of the DC court from a 1988 1st amendment case is pretty spot on.
"The US was founded by people whose views were considered subversive and who offered what the establishment regarded as unacceptable views" Those people had to shoot there way to freedom.
