Agreed, it's a private corporation so they can do what they want. Since Musk didn't take the board seat, he is now free to buy over 15% of the shares. If he takes over the whole company than the shoe will be on the other foot. He or his management will get to define "free speech". If he wants to maximize return on his capital, he can go back to what Twitter said it was in its S1 IPO filing in 2013.

"Twitter is a global platform for public self-expression and conversation in real time. By developing a fundamentally new way for people to create, distribute and discover content, we have democratized content creation and distribution, enabling any voice to echo around the world instantly and unfiltered. "
Then, when the zone is flooded with $hit, watch people abandon it as being useless for meaningful discourse.

That's exactly what happens when something gets massively popular. All the dumb sh!ts come out of the wood work and ruin it.

Facebook started as a way to connect with your friends in an easy way. It turned into whatever the hell Meta is supposed to be. Keeping in touch with folks is one thing. Making it your entire life is another.

If he takes that path, then he will either win or lose as will the shareholders depending on if Musk aquires the all the shares. Frankly, i doubt people will abandon it. One of Twitter's issues in the last few years has been user stagnation. A Free speech platform will probably drive up usage rates and if they figure out better ways to monetize usage they will benefit.

Twitter is already a bit sewer-ish; if it sinks further, serious commenters may abandon it. But, it's all speculation at this point.

Yesterday saw this on a major network streamer:
Russian teacher turned into authorities for anti-war comments made in classroom.
An instant transformation from being a teacher to becoming the authority:D

The Ukrainians are not happy with the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Hard to blame them.

>>>
BERLIN — Ukrainian leaders have delivered a blunt message to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier: You’re not welcome here.

Steinmeier, seen as a symbol of Germany’s soft line on Moscow before the invasion of Ukraine, said Tuesday he had intended to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv along with the presidents of Poland and the three Baltic states.

The plan was to “undertake a trip to Kyiv to send a strong signal of common European solidarity with Ukraine. I was ready to do this, but apparently — and I have to take note of this — this was not wanted in Kyiv,” Steinmeier said on a visit to Warsaw.

German tabloid Bild first reported the Ukrainian snub. It quoted a Ukrainian diplomat as saying that “all of us here know Steinmeier’s close ties to Russia” and that the German president is “not welcome in Kyiv at the moment.”

The Ukrainian move amounts to a humiliation for the German head of state, who previously served as foreign minister.

Last week, Steinmeier admitted for the first time publicly that he had been “mistaken” regarding his soft stance on Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly in the context of his support for the controversial gas pipeline project Nord Stream 2, which many senior German politicians continued to defend even as Moscow massed troops on Ukraine’s borders.

Although Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who also supported Nord Stream 2, canceled the project in February and announced a complete overhaul of German foreign policy, relations between Berlin and Kyiv have been strained, with Zelenskyy calling on German lawmakers last month to start putting principle over the economy by completely isolating Putin.

Speculation for sure. Here's some interesting stats on Twitter usage.

Tonight, I was reminded, no exposed and taught is a better descriptor about Finland, a nation of 4million being invaded by USSR with 180 million way back when and now called Winter War, 1939.

Winter War - Wikipedia

First excursion by Russia Finland cleaned their clocks. Russia regrouped and sent in 1/2 million troops.

Now Russia is threatening Finland or other parts of Europe if they join NATO. Putlin needs to read more history books.

I guess I'm a contrarian. Over the past couple of years, my time on Facebook has dwindled from minimal to almost none. Over the same period, the pattern has reversed for Twitter. I acknowledge that there is a great deal of chaff to be found there but, if one is able to ignore that, there is far more useful information there than pretty much any other social media platform, IMHO.

Ditched Facebook years ago and haven't used it since.

It's an empty threat. They have there hands full in Ukraine. Never mind NATO, the Finns would give them a royal pasting...again.

I suspect the Russians would have to content themselves with cyberattacks.
