Who is to define misinformation? A lot of things that were “facts” from 2019 through 2021 are now deemed to be no longer factual. Hell, if we ignore dissenting opinions, we would all still believe the world is flat. I suggest that if we were all a little more open to hearing contrary opinions, we would be better off. The best antidote for wrong speech is more speech.
Facts are things that can be proven. Sometimes new information changes the facts, as it should. I'm over 6' tall. That is a measurable fact. If I cut off my feet, I am no longer over 6' tall. Also measurable, also negates the fact that I'm over 6' tall.

Opinions are just what people think about things. The earth being round isn't an opinion, it's a provable fact.

I have no problem with people having opinions, but I do have an issue when people present things as facts when they are opinions.

I'm all about having a difference of opinion and having civil discussion. I believe that if you can't argue equally for and against something, then you don't have enough information.

I just wanna say, I love all you guys. All of you, even if we don't see eye to eye. We're at 13 pages, split in agreement, but still having civil discourse. This wouldn't be possible with some groups and I recognize that. It's why I don't often get involved with the steam vent and politically charged threads here. This one hits close to home for me tho.

I've been listening to his podcast since he was doing it out of a spare room in his house, posting them exclusively on Vimeo and was making no money at it. None. It cost him money and time in those early years but he was having so much fun with it he kept going. It was never meant to be a money making juggernaut or get as big as it has. It just happened. Joe has always come across as real and genuine to me. He has always said what's on his mind, and always made it clear that it's his opinion and not to take it as informed advice. He's always said that, about everything. From diet and exercise to frigging ufo's, going back decades.

Just changing it up for a second.
How about a moment of silence for the passing of Dr. Johnny Fever, aka Howard Hesseman.
WKRP in Cincy was one of the best TV shows in the late 70s mostly due to him, the homage to radio, and of course, Lonnie Anderson's...figure.. RIP.

Aw, I loved that show as a kid. I had a huge crush on Loni...

Some good memories. I was always more partial to Bailey, girl next door thing.
Bailey was also very pretty! As soon as you mentioned her a mental image popped right into my mind's eye. Yup, I concur. She's pretty in a more natural way. Loni is gorgeous, but more Barbie-like.

A few weeks ago, Donald Trump decried politicians who did not share their Covid-19 vaccine booster status as “gutless”—a seeming swipe at other Republicans with presidential ambitions, mainly Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who were keeping mum on the matter.

Days later, Trump took the stage in Arizona and didn’t mention his vaccination status or encourage others to get it, as he had at past rallies. He has not talked about booster shots since.

Once relegated to corners of the internet, the anti-vaccine movement has emerged as a force within Republican politics — encouraged by some of the most prominent figures in conservative media and top operatives in the MAGA movement. Their growth has come despite overwhelming evidence that individuals are far less likely to have severe illness or die from Covid if they’re vaccinated and boosted. And while they’re a minority in the party, they are forcing GOP lawmakers and top officials to confront a new set of questions: Is being anti-vaccine mandate enough for a Republican with national ambitions, or does one have to show, explicitly or implicitly, skepticism with the vaccine itself?

The growth of the vaccine skeptical universe has caused alarm within the Republican party, where officials note that — in addition to the serious public health consequences — the position carries obvious political risks.

We get it. You have a man crush and you have to stand by your man. Your loyalty is admirable.:p

You're not entirely inaccurate, I resemble that... :p

I'm really not usually too vocal about issues like this, but when you regularly listen to someone who has 3 hour long conversations with everyone from UFC fighters to astrophysicists for 20 years I can't help but feel like I know the guy. He's always come across as genuine and real. It's a big reason why he grew to be so popular.

So this morning @John Parks posted a video response a couple pages back that Joe put out earlier and not a single comment on it. Did anyone watch it..?

In that clip, he basically sounds as you described. I'll give him a listen if only to stick it to Tipper Gore! Even if he screwed up Chuckies in Love. Ricky Lee Jones' voice was sex personified. Kim Carnes another one.

Following protests of Spotify kicked off by Neil Young over the spread of Covid-19 vaccine misinformation, the music streaming service said that it will add content advisories before podcasts discussing the virus.

Will that bring the others back, tho?
""change the channel, "

So simple but some just can't do it. And here we are in the mess we have today. The media. Kinda goes all the way back to Orson Wells in 1938 where a radio show caused millions to think the earth was being invaded by aliens. ""The combination of the news bulletin form of the performance with the between-breaks dial spinning habits of listeners was later reported to have created widespread confusion among listeners who failed to hear the introduction, although the extent of this confusion has come into question. Panic was reportedly spread among listeners who believed the fictional news reports of a Martian invasion. "" The power of the media to was born that day.
I think Hearst was way ahead of Wells in terms of media power....

Hearst also printed a bunch of lies demonizing cannabis that helped head the charge that led to unjust laws and decades of prohibition, jailing millions as if they were violent offenders.

I wonder how many people know about that? He owned all the newspapers as well as all the lumber mills that produced the paper. Hemp and its usefulness for producing textiles and paper threatened one of his businesses so he went to war and printed fallacious stories and misinformation to get rid of the competition. He basically led the charge to the original war on drugs and the repercussions are still being felt today.

So many peoples' lives ruined and jailed because of one man's greed. That whole deal really blows my mind. That was an intentional misinformation campaign solely for personal gain, everyone back then bought it and some still do!

POS indeed. Not to mention helping start the Spanish American war and all the lives lost there.
