To watch it on my mobile phone I need to register an account on Instagram out Facebook. So no, I’m not going to watch it.
I don't have an instagram account either. I can play it right here on the page. You could try to use your browser to play it, eff the app. I'll see if I can find a yt version...

I didn't realize that for some it requires a sign up for instagram and I don't blame folks for not wanting to so I need to walk back some of my comments. Apologies. I found it on yt too tho and posted it above.

I wouldn't have thought that either. Dumb walled gardens.

He also pledged to put trigger warnings and disclaimers on the more controversial episodes and to follow them up immediately with mainstream experts for the counter viewpoints.
That works for me. If you put it out there that "I'm talking to someone that's going to piss off a lot of you with what they're going to say, but I'm still going to listen" then I have no issue with that.

I just want him to have Bill Burr on more and I'd listen to those two argue all day. Bill is MUCH smarter than Joe, but also a bit more...harsh?

I use one of his lines regularly "I've been a d!ck a long time. I'm good at it."

I use Safari when browsing on AH using my iPhone, so account registration came for the Instagram link. Your YouTube I could watch.

Watching that clip, skipped the NY part, I can see why he gets himself in hot water. To him it seems that all of this are just various opinions and that he is unprepared before interviews with his guests. He should employ someone to help him fact check, research and structure his interviews. He should have learned this from at least his controversy last spring.

edit: effing auto correct.

Toward the end of the video he addresses exactly this, and also pledged to be a little more prepared. Like he said tho, half the time he doesn't even know what's gonna come up so there's always gonna be some improvisation and real time conversational mistakes. He's always made that clear too. That video isn't anything new to long time listeners. He's always said that.

However, and he'll admit it, with certain guests it's not too difficult to predict that some subjects will come up and he could do better at getting his poop together. There's never been an agenda or intentional misinformation campaign tho. There just hasn't. I'm open to evidence to the contrary tho and will get right in line with cancelling him if he's in fact intentionally spreading misinformation, but we're at 15 pages now and I have yet to see anyone post a definitive smoking gun.

That's what annoys me about him. He has them on and says "oh, I didn't know that" instead of "gee, that sure sounds like BS". To be fair, he has done that to plenty of people, but I haven't heard him do it to any of the COVID skeptics.

It's not him that's spreading the misinformation, it's his guests. People want him to do better pointing that out I guess.

Also to be fair, him not preparing is what makes the some of the conversations feel so organic and interesting. It's part of the charm of the show. There's no scripting or agenda. Just conversations. Watching his response video he addresses that and sounds like he's going to try to do better in the future.

I'm just curious, I know you've never really heard of him before this. What's you're impression now after watching a couple of clips, particularly that last one, of him now compared to what you had gleaned from the headlines and accusations at the beginning? I can totally understand if you still don't care for him, but I don't think he comes across the way he's being portrayed.

It can be hard to edit/dredge up all known info on the fly.

Does infectious disease expert and PhD Dr Michael Osterholm from Biden's covid advisory board count? Joe's had him on too...
I meant all his guests/experts, as a whole, not a particular one.

He has 'em all. From kooks to athletes to experts, authors and PhD's.
Reading these sentences I can see a problem, lol. He needs to do better at differentiating between kooks and experts, and I think he's addressing that now.

His style, as he himself described on Instagram, is not something I would enjoy listening to as he appears to be a poor interviewer. The other video from last spring showed that he even has a poor microphone technique as there was a lot of plosives, and that would for me be irritating to listen to.

So, not for me, I guess. That said, I usually don’t listen to podcasts.

Him being a poor interviewer lands him in hot water, and he has no one but himself to blame for that. He is not a newbie podcaster, Spotify did pay $100 millions, so he deserves to have his knuckles rapped a little.

That's the issue. The first 5 min he does basically say "I have people from both sides of the argument on because I'm interested in what they have to say." That's pretty much it.

Now, the issue is that he gave these folks a "platform" to speak on and people aren't happy about it. He also gave equal time to people a lot of us would agree with. It's fair, but I can see the issue with giving the people that question all the vaccine stuff a platform to reach more people would be considered a bad thing.

It's back to my post about facts. If they can prove what they say with facts, I have no issue. If they just say "in my opinion the vaccine will do more damage than the virus" then don't show massive amounts of data to back up that opinion, then we have a problem.
If he gives equal time spread amongst credible people with differing opinions, that's one thing. But to give equal airtime to quacks, in order to appear balanced, that's another thing altogether.

I'm not sufficiently interested in Joe Rogan to listen to him. My main point in this thread is that Neil Young has every right to ask Spotify to choose between him and JR. It's not not a question free speech, censorship or "cancel culture". NY does not want to be associated with a streaming service that gives airtime to a podcaster who has voiced misinformation and had guests who have done the same. Spotify chose Rogan. I assume NY is content with that decision - he's certainly wealthy enough not to have to worry about lost income.

You didn't really answer my question! Lol.

Did your impression of him change, at all, from reading the first headlines to actually hearing what he has to say? I acknowledge you don't care for his style. I just want your perspective before and after.

Btw, he's a very good interviewer, imo and many others. He gets a lot out of his guests and has people coming to him to be on the show, not the other way around. Smart, influential people and yes, some kooks too, but more of the former. He wouldn't be as popular as he is if he was a poor interviewer. He's had literal geniuses on his show and holds his own in conversation with them.

Perhaps he is not as insincere as the first video indicated, but is showing some poor judgement at times in selection of guests combined with not being prepared.I’m with @GO-NAD! in his post just above.

Ilike interviews where the interviewer is we’ll prepared and knowledgeable, and even better off the first knows what they are talking about.

As for difference in knowledge and style of interview, have a look/hearing of the following blogger that is a professor in exercise physiology with many guest that are top researchers themselves, or otherwise distinguished. He stopped making new podcast, sadly.

Do you think he's being fairly portrayed by the media or do you think he's being, at least partly, unfairly mischaracterized?
