Some words regarding Neal Young removing his music from Spotify.

Young's actions were apparently inspired by this letter:

From the letter:

As I've stated before, I haven't listened to one of JR'S podcasts. However, I get the impression from his critics that he spouts nonsense such as, "Young people don't need to be vaccinated against COVID" (paraphrasing) and allows guests to spout nonsense, while framing it in "Just asking questions" terms.
Whatever NY's reason or inspiration was he should have done his home work if he relied on this "270 letter" to change the world.

1. This letter was pushed by Jessica Rivera who has worked with the Rockefeller Foundation and the Atlantic. Apparently, she is occasionally featured on CNN LOL but not as many times as Mike Avenatti. Hardly neutral organisations. If this letter came from a "right wing" source, Foundation and Magazine it would be immediately dismissed as partisan garbage.

2. "270 scientists, doctors, and other health professionals" is rather misleading eh?
Stated in a different way: @70 doctors with qualified medical degrees who are actual practitioners, @30 non practicing MDs employed by universities, 50 PhD academics, 60 professors, 29 nurses, 10 students, and some science podcasters. Disregarding the non practitioners you get 70, BFD.

Waving this particular letter as a shining example that could sway minds for the better, doesn't. It makes things worse, i.e. it will make fence sitters become more skeptical and will probably increase JR's audience. That's a bad result if the objective is to move more into the vaccinated camp.

Have the highest respect NY the artist, but I would have hoped NY or his paid handlers would have done their homework.
Science podcasters, students, really?

I hear you. Most of there channels are very repetitive after a while. Even if a musician has a huge catalogue of material, they play the same top 15 or 20 songs
I started when I helped a friend with some AV installation work and he was playing the music channels on DirecTV, which were from XM. That music, as well as some of the other channels I found by scanning through the lineup got me to subscribe to DirecTV, too. Once XM started removing the channels I liked and for the other two reasons I mentioned, I quit. I didn't find anything that made me want to pay for the service, although their coverage was great for long drives from MKE to PHX, which has a vast area of radio wasteland. and I didn't want to carry a big box of CDs.

He said that to one of his guests. They were talking about guns and Joe said something like "oh hey, we should get Alex Jones to come with us to the range". I was surprised since I figured Joe would make fun of how much of a jackass windbag (being very nice) Alex is.
I can't imagine being anywhere with Alex Jones but at a range, at least I could avoid hearing him by stuffing ear plugs into my head and wearing active hearing protection. I would expect him to tug on peoples' sleeve, like a little kid, if they didn't respond to him. If someone wants to torture me, strap me to a chair so I can't use my hands and put him in the room.

It is the credibility of the source that matters, not that it is “right wing”. This is a point that eludes some members of this forum.

What does all the PhD and professors know about this? Obviously misleading.

When did he make the comment about young people not needing the vaccine? IIRC, it was when the data showed that they WEREN'T being infected and hospitalized at a high rate and that was pretty early in the pandemic. AFAIK, that age group still hasn't become the bulk of the infected or hospitalized. I seriously doubt he would be throwing young people under the bus but when people comment about quotes, the context really should be shown.

For the record, I'm not defending Rogan for any wingnut comments. If I watch his segments, they're on YouTube and only when the title shows something interesting. However, if they go off the rails, I move on.

What's the deal with all of the UFO stuff on his show? Is that because of Alex Jones, or is he a fan of Art Bell?

Agree that it is the credibility of the source that matters. I would add, it also might be useful to actually listen or read the original source instead of relying on third party interpretation.

They are Van Halen 2.0 and I will die on that hill.
The hell they are! I saw Nickelback at Summerfest, for awhile. Didn't have to pay for ticket to their show since it's an open-access festival and that's a good thing. They're really a one trick pony. Van Halen was anything but that. Eddie influenced a whole lot of people's playing and I can't think of anyone who EVER said "I REALLY want to learn those Chad Kroeger licks".

You better plant a darned good flag on that hill, mister!

While I don't doubt their credibility when it comes to patient health and large scale public outcomes I do doubt their credibility when it comes to overstating the risk the JR represents based on what I've seen.

Sorry I just can't buy that JR is a misinformation agent after watching the Dr. Malone episode. I don't think Dr. Malone is right vs the data.

I would throw in "Grandma got Runover by a Reindeer" to that.

I don't know. Nickelback without a singer sounds great. When he starts, the lyrics are so bad I can't listen.

Same for Van Halen. Hot For Teacher is one of the most technically difficult songs ever to exist...and has horrifically bad lyrics.

Okay, I've been silent on this very important subject but can no longer hold my tongue...

Nickelback ain't that bad. I even think they have a few actual good songs, and a few that one might even consider heavy metal. I don't think they're an awesome band, but I do think they unfairly get a bad rap.
