so 2 weeks later and the goddamn sound is gone again and only coming through the tv speakers. WTF???? So now i have to keep hard resetting the tv to get back the sound through EARC. ridiculous. joke. I tried a quick hard reset to the tv tonight again and it didn't restore sound for Netflix nor Amazon through my Roku appns. Bites major. i may have to retry again tomorrow and maybe have the receiver turned off then turn on tv first then receiver and seeing if sequence works. At a loss. Suggestions.
Hi, I don't hav the time to read the whole thread so... I have the x2700H and have had simular issues. All you have to do to fix it is hold the power button until the reciever turns off and back on again. This does not change any settings. After a couple of reboots it seems to be working consistantly now.

hi thank you so much. The receiver seems to be working now due to switching a few of the settings for some reason - off and on and it works well now. May do a power off just to reset all and thanks again.

hi, so the piece of crud is off again. it stopped working and now have to unplug and replug the arc hdmi to get any sound at all. stupid. i imagine if i plug in my optical it will work in surround through my denon? this sucks.

Yes you would be able to do that via an optical connection....optical carries lossy 5.1 no problem.

Have you thought about just getting a Roku Ultra and plugging it into an HDMI input port on your AVR?

I didn't want to do this for quite a while because it meant that a few little pieces of semiconductors and some electrons had beat me, but I eventually gave in and accepted defeat.

I've never used a Firestick, but I would think it's similar. You'd have to check to see if it has the apps you use and the audio and video capabilities you want.

You could just try it and see what happens.

so i wired an optical cable from tv to the denon receiver and works. i've noticed the volume seems to lower. will i lose any capabilities i had when directly connected to arc or is it the same?

As @lovinthehd said, the optical connection is limited to dolby digital 5.1. Any app that was sending a dolby digital+/atmos signal will now be limited to dolby digital 5.1. You may not notice a difference with most material. You may also notice a difference in video quality when using TV apps versus external streamers and the app menus can differ a bit from TV apps to external device apps. Compare your favorite material from the TV apps and the Firestick and see which of them you prefer over the other.

last thing I'll be trying is the firestick and then go from there. Love all the strange eclectic channels that are on roku and would hate to get rid of them. lets see. For me, the optical is not ideal due to not having the flexibility of atmos and DD+ with my viewing. tried resetting and switching arc and hdmi switching off and on in the denons menus which worked last time. nothing. reset the receiver a few times also but nothing. drives me nuts. hopefully that didnt reset my audyssey settings. Onward.....

If you want Netflix Atmos you need either the 2019 Fire Cube 4K (2nd gen) or the AppleTV 4K.

The first time a read this I thought it said "in the demon's menus." I guess my brain arrived at that based on my experience with ARC using my Denon.

hahaha, honestly. im going to keep using optical for now but dont like the fact i cant use atmos or anything other than 5.1 with my denon avrx3400h. limits it. im thinking of getting the firestick 4k with support for all dolby. just wired my system for 7.1 also, will i get that with optical? is much on netflix, amazon or others even in 7.1? no point maybe.

@CajunLB stated that turning the TV speakers settings to off in the TV itself worked for him to get ARC working properly. Look into that if every other setting checks out. Optical is limited to DD 5.1. When you say 7.1, do you mean 5.1.2?

no, i meant 4 surrounds, 2 in rear, centre, right left and sub. isnt that correct?

Yes, that is correct but the atmos experience would be lost in that configuration. You want height speakers for the effect and would lose the surround back channels if setting up a 5.1.4 system. Or, use two height speakers in a 7.1.2 setup. Many would say the former is the better setup.

Well, let's get the models squared away. Title of thread says X3600H. Then there is reference to X3400H and X2400H. So, advice from anybody about setup will depend on the model.

Apologies. I have the avrx3400h and although I love it, it is becoming a major pain in the a$#$& with these arc issues. Every week playing and resetting. Good thing I'm home now recuperating with hand surgery and have the time. Any of the others close to it in model ie 2400s or 4400s should be similar in menu setup. I'm thinking try another!!! Hard reset on tv.... Anyone have the exact settings for this and/or similar models to trigger earc with tv is appreciated... :(
