What is the kind of content that you are listening to? How loud do you like to listen? If you are not going to be listening at loud levels, then you don't really need a tower speaker. Just get some bookshelf speakers. If you don't care about big blockbuster movies or listen to music with deep bass, a sealed sub will work just fine. On the other hand, if you want a powerful sound, think about getting dual ported subs.

Back to the Revel PerformaBe 226 real quick...

If I went that route and paired it with a C208...am I "downgrading" the center? Should I only look at the C426Be because it is in the same "tier" as those floorstanding speakers?

There was mention that I want to look for the best possible center channel because my main goal is movie watching and almost all the dialogue comes out of the center channel...

I might have to take out a loan to afford this but I don't want to settle for something I will regret in 5 years.

Edit
@shadyJ - I am going to use this system for movies mostly. They will be 4K Blu-Ray movies with DTS-X, Dolby Atmos, etc...I like to play the movies LOUD (i.e. floorstanding speakers). I also LOVE rap/hip-hop music so I may play some of that but mainly movies/video games on this.

I think I will end up going with a ported sub...I understand the differences in general (coming from car subwoofers, I have 2x12" JLW6 - sealed in my truck...only reason they are sealed is because the box is built by JL specifically for my truck...02 Cadillac Escalade EXT, so the box replaces the midgate in my vehicle...would have preffered a ported box but it didn't exist). My room is too small to have dual subs right now but in our next house I assume we will be in a bigger room so I would be able to add the 2nd then

Edit 2
@mazersteven - Can you give me a "dumb" comparison between the F208 ($2,500) & PerfromaBe226 ($3,500)...total of 2k difference, which is a decent amount today but over the years, will I be disappointed I didn't spring for the PerformaBe226? As asked in the post above, if I do the PerformaBe226, can I pair them with a c208 center channel or should I not mix those two "tiers"? The center channel for the performabe series is just SO EXPENSIVE

Don't take out a loan for audio equipment, good heavens! If you don't want to skimp on the center speaker, get the C426Be and just get some temporary front speakers. Center speakers don't get much better than the C426Be. If you like loud hip-hop, make sure the subs are up to task. You might think about stepping up to the PB-3000 or Hsu 15"s. Or some of the other subs listed in Audioholics most recent article for $1500 subs.

My advise - it's not the brand it is the what sounds good to your ears. So audition, audition audition the speakers. Having said that based your usage movies and mostly hip hop I think Klipsch set might be the cost effective choice. Klipschs' are quite efficient speakers you could drive them to high volumes with a moderately powered receiver.

When you are up at this level of speakers all of them should be good, diminishing returns can be quite apparent. It all depends on use, for mostly movies/games and some hip-hip/rap both of the Revel speakers you are looking at should be fantastic if set up right.
That said, you really should listen to your type of music on one of them or at least a similar “level” of speaker. Your music may not sound right to you because its so “clean”. (At least at first.) It may be a surprise.
Sorry about the slight curve ball but i thought it was worth mentioning.

So I don't think I care too much about the music aspect of the system. I may play some music from time to time but it will be very infrequent. I have used my Bose speakers to play music for maybe an hour over the last 2 years...If I am at home and in front of my TV, I am either watching movies or playing video games.

So I want to know (for movies) if it is worth spending the money on PerformaBe 226 & PerformaBe Center or if I will be just as happy going with the C208 center channel (and then either the 208 floorstanding or the 226). $4,500 vs. $2,000 is a huge jump in price...is the 226 worth more than double the c208?

One person above said I need to audition them...Like I said in an earlier post, I live in Albuquerque NM and we have 1 business that does high end home audio and they only have 2 rooms of demos and they are both B&W so there is not way for me to hear Revel vs B&W vs Paradigm vs GoldenEar for my ears to hear what sounds best...that is why I am trying to figure out where to draw the line in terms of $$$.
2x226 & 1x426 = 12k
vs
2x208 & c208 = 7k

Impossible for us to say really but coming from Bose either will be a massive jump for you.
For me for movies i dont think i would go for the most expensive ones, the less expensive ones are still way up there. Electronics and sub(s) arent free either.

If music was a priority I would rock the more expensive F226Be's but since it's not I would go with the 208's

Awesome...thank guys...having you all in agreement that I don't NEED to spend the extra dough to get the 226's make me feel better about "stepping down" from the PerformaBe to the Performa3 series.

I am assuming I should go with the C208 for the center channel in this setup?

just to make sure...would the pb-3000 be too much for the performa3 series setup? I am still leaning to the pb-2000 just because of cost...would I be able to add the pb-3000 to my setup later as a second sub?

It depends on how loud you like to listen. The PB-3000s certainly have more of a punch than the 2000s. If you want PB-3000 level punch at prices closer to the PB-2000, check out the 15" subs from Hsu.

PB-3000 All Day, Everyday, Including Sunday
If you're thinking of getting one now and getting another sub in the future do the 3000 now. Don't do the 2000 and then save and get a 3000 you want both subwoofers to be the same

Okay so here is where I am at with a potential setup

2 x Performa3 208 = $5,000
1 x Performa3 C208 = $2,000
1 x PB-3000 = $1,500
Sub-Total = $8,500 + Tax

Now...the rear surrounds...looking at the performa3 S206's...$900ea...seems like a really good surround speaker...thoughts?

And...the height speakers...I know Revel does "in ceiling" speakers...Is this the route to go to get Atmos? They carry a bunch of options for in ceiling but don't see much that could be mounted on the ceiling pointed down (like my bose cube speakers are now)...I didn't really want to have to cut out a hole in the ceiling to mount these but I will if that's the best option

If you’re really interested in not cutting up the ceiling, SVS prime elevation offers good options.

Looks like a great setup. As was pointed out, SVS has Ellevation speakers which can be mounted with should approximate the height channels very well, so you don't have to cut holes in the ceiling.

Great!

Any other things that should be pointed out to a newbie like me?

One example:
I have heard you need to "break-in" your speakers...no idea what this means or how to do it.

Any other tidbits of info that would help me out doing this for the first time? Does speaker wire matter? As long as it is the right gauge do I need to worry about certain brands? I am assuming these speakers do not come with wire...
