U said u have a sub right now. If you are really down about that decision tho, see if you can still get the deal, or check out Hsu. I was super close on Hsu too. Like ready to get in the car and drive 6 hours to avoid shipping close! But seriously. be patient.
The monoliths are solid. check out the review here at audioholics. Still not piano black, but subs are meant to be FELT, not seen.

OR... chill for a minute and consider the future:
Get your bookshelves and put them through their paces. Decide if that's what you want up front right now... if not, can you do the towers? If those don't hit for you, Lawdy, U gon need to go 12-step'n at Audioholics Anon.
Drunk Penguin did have the right of it though... by the numbers, you should be OK with the center+ those bookshelves or towers, but power will become a little bit of a concern soon. They both should operate at 20W just fine, but will want more juice to really open up I expect. If I remember your AVR right, it should have the juice to get them up near reference level. And you already expressed concern about getting too loud. so...
Likewise, subs are very sensitive to room size. Invest heavily now and you might not have the output you'll need in a larger room... unless you roll the dice on the future needs. In which case, check out
this and don't look back.
Dig? Get your books, see if they work for you now. If not, do the towers. Save up for the right AVR...
And research them! Sony, Denon, Onkyo... Worry about buying in 6-8 months. Then get your next upgrade at Black Friday next year. The more you learn now, the better decisions you'll make going forward!
Cheers! And I hope you enjoy those. They should do you right for many years to come if you upgrade smartly!
(Just to share, I'm ordering standmouts as my mains until my towers come in around 5 mos. then my standmounts become my surrounds.
