Badger, how tall is your ceiling? Less than 10'? you're probably in a QUOTE]

Sounds about right. Could I do 2 towers, center and then use my current sub for the time being, then get the 2000 series later?

Meh, the "subs" in the DT speakers are about as weak as their separate "subs" (as you can tell I don't think much of either). 3,1 or even just 2.1 (as long as you have a plan for a suitable center down the line) can yield better value.
Lol fair enough. I’m an accountant so I’m all about value! That’s what I came looking for!

Those are very poor excuses for woofers, and they inflate the cost of the speaker because you are buying an amplifier with each speaker you buy!

@UWbadger91 If you wanna buy the best deal I know of right now: Go to SVS, buy they Prime Towers and Prime Center, and one of the Black Friday subs.

You can absolutely use the one you have now. save the money til you can research more. and save more!

But if you want a great deal, get one of those NSD series subs, and know that you aren't buying poor equipment. ;)

Are the prices posted on their website sales prices or normal? Do they discount often?

Sorry, looks like the PB12NSD is sold out now. Save the money for the short term and engage with the forum here. read all the sub reviews you can, and find the right sub for you in 6mos to a year out. or if you really want something now for your smaller rom , the 1000 is pretty respectable.

Is there any benefit to buying the speakers now vs waiting awhile? My main rush was Black Friday sales but it appears as though the towers and center aren’t on sale. Do they generally not discount these?

they discount more by qty bought, not occasional sales. their value is in their customer service. you could wait a month and learn more about your options. SVS will cost the same in a month or 6... but its a great value.

I said before... not trying to sell you on them. I am not an SVS customer. I did strongly consider them. And I almost bought from them even after listening to Def Tech. Especially after.

I'm looking at, and am in final conversation with Dennis at Philharmonic Audio. Great speakers. But I was #thisclose to buying SVS! ;)

Black friday sales can be great! there are many posts here about some savings you can find! JBL, for example. Again, not my speed, but they are respected too. check the site here out for other black friday deals.

Just don't get pressured by a big box sales rep for something you didn't get to compare to other speakers!

I appreciate the help! I like that I can do a simple google search and find information on them and reviews. I find it odd that Deftech doesn’t have many reviews or even thread posts.

So is SVS over say Polk and Klipsch then too?

SVS is a good option but I would listen to a few speakers first. We find certain designs work better for certain people. There are so many choices out there so don’t rush to find a deal on a speaker that doesn’t sound right to you. You are better off skipping the hassle of reselling a speaker later. Good luck! :)

Personally, I would avoid Klipsch. Thats just me. If you can listen to them and like the sound, again, its your ears and ducats!
Some people like Polk, no experience myself, but I have repeatedly heard they like a lot of power. Perhaps another here could elaborate and expound... or say not to worry about it.
I've heard some good things about PSB, KEF and Elac can be good. I Like Monitor Audio A LOT! (Almost bought in the Silver line. But Bronze line is supposed to be solid, too) Also look at Fluance Signature!, heard good things about them from some well respected cats here! I've spent months researching. I want now, but might be waiting another 5 months for my speakers!

Don't read too much in just the brand name, either. Bigger brands, like those found in the big B&M stores, have a variety of models and they're not all similar. If you can go listen to some variety of speakers that would give you an idea. DT nor Polk nor Klipsch are particularly the bees knees afaic, but just may have speakers in your price range you like just fine. SVS with their free home trial is very consumer friendly and puts out some good stuff. Home trial is particularly nice as your room will have a great influence on how they sound (if you can get a dealer to loan speakers that works, too). There are a variety of good internet direct speakers and subs, altho not all come with the free round trip shipping like SVS offers for their in-home trial/satisfaction guarantee thing; others may have you pay the return freight.

Thank you all! The SVS do certainly rate well. I primarily see reviews for their subs but when I do see reviews on their towers they’re generally good. So i should get Deftech out of my head then? Even at 25% off? I may go back to Magnolia and listen today. Like I said, I’m all about value. I buy high end stuff, but like ‘good deals’.

Curious, why did you order the sub from that vendor instead of direct from SVS?

Value is good. But sometimes, saving a penny for the sake of saving a penny isn’t a good value. Dennis Miller once joked: “two of sh!t is sh!t; if they really wanted to f you, they’d give you three!”

My caution to you is educate yourself before u buy. Go back and listen. Listen to the deftechs, listen to Martin Logan and KEF and B&W. Listen below your price range, and above. Take three pieces of music you know well. Perhaps something jazz or folk, stripped down to 3-4 non-amped musicians. Listen to a male vocal and a female vocal. Piano is good, too. These will expose the flaws in a speaker more than any EDM or hip hop cut ever will.
If you like deftech after you listen to other stuff, then do it.
Last note on value: the ID companies like SVS and emotiva all represent value too! For svs, it’s a good price with exemplary customer service. One friend here is an avowed svs-er for life, and uses 3 prime towers up front for his l-c-r channels!
Happy hunting!

Thanks! From what I read the sub was a no brainer at that price. Agree? Now given that should I still run tower speakers or do cubes?

Towers or cubes? What about bookshelves (or if you prefer, stand mounts) instead of cubes?
