I finally wrote a review for the Sammy on Amazon this morning. Three stars seemed too harsh, but that's what I went with because four stars stands for "I like it" - and I definitely don't like the buzz. I ordered a Sony LCD TV to replace it that is scheduled for delivery next Friday. I should just start weeping now, as I know the picture won't compare. Hopefully it's quiet, though. If it buzzes...I don't want to even think about that.

KDL60W630B. It had one of the best ratings on Amazon, and I feel like steering clear of Samsung for a bit. I hadn't really thought of buying a Sony TV, but people seem to like it. No 3D, but I'm okay with that.

After agreeing to review some, I wore an earring out in public for the first time in several years. I got a couple in one ear back in college when it was in style in the early 90's, but that hasn't been my style for a long time. The holes in front are still easy to get into, but it isn't easy pushing through the holes in the back (I swear, the first one of you to say something...). One wasn't too bad, but I still haven't gotten the second one, yet.

I got this one.

After a while the plastic where the lid screws on cracked a little so if you leave it full to the brim with water to soak, it will get in between the glass and stainless part. I don't do that anymore and I tip it occasionally just to make sure that any water would have a chance to drain.

I would get it again. Swerd recommended it and he's into coffee for real. Now I want coffee but Cheryl doesn't like it when I drink at night.

EDIT: At least I think it's that one. It has glass inside the stainless pot. Swerd said it was better than the stainless version right up until you broke the glass. Evidently the all stainless ones lose the vacuum pretty quick and don't insulate in pretty short order.

You can turn it on with your iPhone providing your aim is really good.

psbfan2 – The Bonavita is one of the few drip coffee makers that brews at the right temperature, about 195 to 205°F. Most others have punier water heaters and end up brewing at cooler temperatures, about 190° or less. Believe it or not, that results in coffee that tastes more bitter.

I like the one with the thermal carafe because I can bring it to the kitchen table and it keeps the coffee warm, If you don't care about that, the one with the glass carafe will be fine.

I like the glass liner in the stainless thermos because it's easy to clean with dish washer detergent – the powdered kind. It removes the brown coffee stain that builds up on the glass without any scrubbing or effort.

The coffee pot I have, a different make, has a thermos with stainless steel lining. The glue they used to attach the stainless to the plastic top failed when I cleaned it with dishwasher detergent, and lost the vacuum seal between the inner and outer layer. It still works alright, but if got another coffee maker, I'd get one with a glass lined thermos.

When I went to HHGregg and a few different BB's to look at TV's, I have to say the Sony's didn't look half bad. Given that I'm not a huge fan of this curved business with the Samsung's, I probably would have picked a Sony over an equal Sammy.

I don't like drip coffee that much. It's doesn't have presence even average espresso does.
Besides espresso is much more economical as far as beans consumption. The extraction is much efficient - one can dilute it with water/milk to personal taste.

But like Swerd says - very few none-commercial grade drip machines brew at right temp. Never heard about Bonavita - this one I did hear about:

p.s: Gosh darn, the Saeco Aroma (black) machine which I bought 3 years ago for $169 is now at-the-least $250. Darn.

I have one of those. It's rather expensive, but it seems to last a long time. I think I got mine maybe as long as 10 years ago, so long that I'm not sure. Other cheaper drip machines I've previously owned wouldn't last more than 2 or 3 years. So I guess, in that sense, it isn't so expensive.

I know next to nothing about making espresso. All the machinery to grind and brew it seems to be even more expensive. Good coffee is even more preference oriented than good audio.

Even at $110.00 it's way more than I would normally pay, but it's for my wife's birthday. And that Amazon store card in my pocket makes it too easy to buy more expensive things. Yeah, it's the cards fault that I have no self control.

I just measured my bunn today when I made coffee. 199.7 out of the filter and makes coffee as fast as you can pour water into it.

The glass carafe is probably easier to clean than the thermos. When the glass gets noticeably brown, fill it with hot water, add a spoon full of powdered dishwasher detergent, and that brown stain should come off without scrubbing.

For years, I used to make coffee with Melitta cone & pot. Boil water in a kettle, and pour it over the grounds in the cone. That's the cheap & easy way to do it. It always made better coffee than all the automatic drip pots I had, until I got the Technivorm.

I believe it's this one. The only downside is that it'll bump the electricity bill a touch because it keeps the water reservoir ready to go at all times.

This is how my father in law makes coffee. I have to say, it's some of the best coffee I've had.

I believe part of that time has to do with the fact that the Bunn doesn't have to heat the water, it's already heated. As for the method in which the coffee maker applies the water to the grounds, the Bunn is also a lot different than other drip makers I've had in the past. The Bunn shoots jets of water at the coffee grounds. It actually shoots the water so hard that I couldn't use the reusable coffee filters anymore, I had to buy the paper Bunn filters because they are a little taller which kept the grounds from spilling over the edge.

As far as I can tell there's no difference in how the coffee tastes, but don't expect all the extra bells and whistles like choosing brew strength or delayed brew. If you don't need that stuff, I'd recommend the it.
