Looking forward to your review. I enjoy the product reviews very much.

Curious. While you are testing there has been a topic of some debate about whether or not the 2400 , or in this case the 2500 is able to output all of it's channel in a single room ( with or without external amping being required).

IE: Do you have the ability to have F/C/L , Front Left Presence, Front Right Presence , Side Left, Side Right and Back Surround Left, Back Surround Right all at the same time ??

Basically actually running the presence channel with DPLIIx running or ES /EX signals with the presence channel doing it's DSP magic.

If you find out that would be great. And if you dont mind , what DSP mode would allow that if possible.

And question 21 , can you ask Yamaha if they are planning something in between the 2500 and the Z9 anytime soon ??

Thanks in advance ...

Could you publish a preview (complete description of the features) before you're through?

Thank you for excellent reviews.

I pre-ordered back on Oct. 5 from www.unitedonlineshopping.com and the unit just arrived at my home today.

You can view the pricing there. I don't think we can post prices on this particular forum.

You cannot have presence channels and back channels at the same time - not even with a separate amplifier. One of the downsides as I feel it should be able to support 7.1 plus presence channels via external amplification. Maybe the next iteration or model...

No back and presence?

Hawke,

Are you stating the RX V2500 will not play through presence and rear speakers simultaneously like the RX V1 will?

Thanks,

Apparently there are only 7 channels of amplification in the receiver. That means if you have all 9 speakers hooked up then either the presence speakers will take priority or the rear surrounds will take priority (user selectable).

So, both front and presence will play, just not at the exact same moment.

Gene, what would the wattage be when all channels are driven?

AC-3/RF input

Clint,

Did I read correctly in your review that there is an AC-3/RF in? I have not seen this in the literature, but it would be a very nice feature as I still spin up an occasional laserdisc.

Thanks,

Doug

Clint will be out of town for a couple of weeks so I will try to help out a bit.

No it was a typo on our processor checklist. The RX-V2500 doesn't have AC-3/RF in.

Gene, what would the wattage be when all channels are driven?
This is really not a practical test scenario and many receivers in this price class have to make compromises in power supply design to fit a cetain form factor and budget.

I suggest reading the following article we wrote about this:

The All Channels Driven Controversy

FYI, the 2400/2500 are likely very similar in this regard. If time permits I may have Yamaha ship me the 2500 to do some amplifier measurements as a supplementary article.

Thanks for the review, i bought a RX-V1500 to replace a HK AVR430, and so far im very pleased with it. I think that the stereo sound is great.

The review didnt mention biamping, can it or cant it? I really would like to know before I get down on my knees and pull the receiver out of my rack :)

It is a nice review, but I was really hoping (and expecting) that it would incorporate more detailed comparisons to both the Yamaha RX-V2400 and even the Denon 3805. For example, he lists a general comment on "improved components" being in the 2500, but there is no mention on what effect this has on the comparison of sound quality between the 2 units.

My guess is that the 2400 and 2500 sound very similar, but either way, I was hoping to hear something about that in this review. As a current 2400 owner, I was a bit underwhelmed by the "improvements" in the 2500 on paper.

I was also curious how he felt the sound quality compared to the Denon 3805, but there was really no mention of that either.

Mike
