You cannot have presence channels and back channels at the same time - not even with a separate amplifier. One of the downsides as I feel it should be able to support 7.1 plus presence channels via external amplification. Maybe the next iteration or model...

hi clint, i emailed you about the 2500 and the marantz sr 7500. what does your above statement of the yamaha 2500 mean, as i'm a novice. does it still apply if you use 6 channels instead of 7?

Don't mean to revive this but my original plan to get the Athena is now a bit of a problem as Athena does not sell 'loose' but as a set. Therefore, to be fair to the vendor, I didnt' think it was worth opening another set just for me. Hence, he proposed Energy again, but this time the Take 5.2 series. I assume this would be better in that I believe it has a higher rating & that it would match the 2500 better? Anyone has any comments on this?
