i would like to get the PS3 AND but will probably lean towards the XBOX if ti is indeed backwards compatible...

actually, that isnt that big of a deal because I dont even play any of my games that are older than 1 year old, especially the sports ones.

so if I had to make a decision I would probably go with the ps3 because that seems to me more of the gaming machine and less of the online/home entertainment systems. I don't use xbox live at all and I don't care about any of that other non gaming stuff.

oh, they have one of those "free XBOX 360" sites up already. kinda like those free ipod sites. here is a link if you are interested .

actually the PS3 only has one 3.2 gh processor and the xbox 360 has 3...and as said before its not really the system that matters, but what games you're into (the ps3 controllers are seriously ****ed up....). The strange thing is that consoles these days are turning into computers...hardrives....graphic cards...processors...sounds very computerish...but i'd go for a console over a comp, reason being if you get the xbox 360...for about $300+ you get three 3.2gh processor comp that (can they surf the internet?? tha'd be messed...) can play games at a much smoother and faster rate than a computer....thats all they really are...juiced up computers, built only for games

I plan to buy one of the three and not care about the others. It seems that i will get the xbox360 and all its little accecories such as the remote and such. the main thing that repels me from the ps3 is aside from their games, is their messed up controllers..they look very uncomfortalbe and they look like boomarangs with buttons...also they're crome..which doesnt fit in with my "enviorment"...shiny is not good...it'll glare and burn your eyes out...

noo ps3 is in the lead by one!!
its not as good though...technoligically it may have a small advantage, but i think its winning because ps2 came out earlier and more people own them and want to take advantage of the backwards compatability

And you have a personal stake in the poll results? :p J/K

Buy the one that suits you best and enjoy it. As I've said, if I were to update (unlikely), I'd go with PS3 simply because I'm already in that camp...and the one game I really care about is a PS exclusive.

I'll probably own one of each of the PS3 and 360. I really see no reason to have to choose if you enjoy playing them that much. Since the 360 is coming out in November, you'd have time to save for the ps3.

The biggest advantage of having both is so that when you rent games you don't have to be quite as concerned about finding something on the shelves.

im goin for the ps3.. blue ray is the new disc, how can you hate sony when they are responsible for leading everyone into new better technologies. If they hadnt started up blue ray we'd be stuck with hd-dvd because toshiba?? was too cheap to use differnt machinery, and could only fit 30 gigs onto their new media.

xbox 360 is going to use the outdated regular dvd.. 9 gigs max compared to 50? i wonder which games will be better...

sony also has better games.. ffx, god of war, etc plus the ps2 slim is awesome.

im actually playing ff7 right now and its still cool.. ps1 game.

360 does come out way sooner than ps3 though, 360 is supposed to be this year i think.. and ps3 a year from now. if i remember right

I mostly play PlayStation 1 games. I can get RPG's used for about $4, and thats alot of quality game-hours for very little money (Except Castelvania: Symphony of the Night which cost me $45 on Ebay). Most of my current console games are P vs.P fighting games, because those are good at parties with beer.

And I figured if I cut back on buying bike 'stuff' I should be able to afford all three consoles by christmas. Now if they only had good games for all three.....

PS: My local videostore has a monthly subscription service, like BlockBuster, but it also covers games & porn! Sweet!

I have no clue of what will be the best machine(real time graphics & animation), but of the technical demos from E3, at least the ones I saw, the PS3 looked alot better when comparig the best example from each machine. The best looking Xbox 360 game was the new DOA title. But it did not look much different from the existing X-box, to be honest. The Final Fantasy tech demo, though, had very impressive looking animation/graphics(supposedly done all in real-time) that looked like pre-rendered studio CGI. That being said, even if the PS3 ends up being the superior device, technically, that won't be any use in real-world applications if it's difficult to make games for it(like the PS2) that use the potential of the CPU's power.

AFAIK the PS2 is the only console with backwards compatibility. That was part of the big marketing push at first--and it already had a large built-in software base. IMHO it's been a long-overdue concept for console systems.

Xbox 360 is my favorite, I'm a huge Xbox fan graphics are amazing so I can't wait to see the new system. But I know I'll end up buying both so it doesnt really matter, because I'll have to play the new Grand Theft Auto and Gran Turismo when they come out for PS3
