Why I am not getting the full UtraHD audio from AmazonMusic

Yeah I guess it's confusing. I didn't even know there was just an HD tier to be honest till you said that.
I use the Amazon music app. on my Fire Cube. Goes right to my X3400H and sound very, very good. I don't do 2 channel either, I know, shoot me, blasphemy but I let Dolby surround do it's thing. I freaking miss, miss big time DPLII. I could cry that is not offered any more. I thought it sounded amazing.

Do you get any multich selections via Amazon or you need to always upmix? I haven't tried the Amazon music thing, wasn't crazy about its predecessor on Amazon, altho this seems to be an improved service but seems to vary in capability with device/app quite a bit. I have an older Fire Stick and seem to remember someone saying they weren't getting but cd level that way....

There is supposed to be Atmos music there but I am totally confused by Atmos music. I can't get a full explanation on what the heck it is. When I looked it up a while back I thought I read it's something for headphones, not a multi channel home theater thing but again I'm confused as hell.
I like Amazon music Ultra. It's got some quirks but the service overall is good. I mean you really do get everything with unlimited.

Yeah at first that was what I thought about the headphone thing (and think that was somewhat true for Atmos on phones before the streaming Atmos thing came about), but seems they're (i.e. some streaming services) actually streaming via Dolby Digital Plus some lossy Atmos multich tracks (altho seems they're manufactured rather than specially mixed for Atmos/multich).

Hmm I'm intrigued now. I'll have to look into this more. Every time I look into Atmos music I usually end up with a headache trying to get info or a straight answer on it or find content.

I saw that the multich Atmos thing comes with a few different names... think I've seen Amazon calls it 3D? Apple calls it Spatial? Tidal has some and calls it Atmos....and I was just about to ask Treb to fill us in :)

Dolby Atmos tracks from Amazon Music are only available from the Echo.
This is what I'm talking about, I don't get it. What the F is Dolby Atmos? Why would it be available from the Echo? I'm really tired of trying to find exactly what the heck it is and how it works. It's not a discreet channel thing like MLP with DVD-Audio or DSD with SACD. It's not something your receiver decides so what in the hell is it?
To me it's an even worse failure than the rest because no one knows what it truly is, how it works.

Ok, experiment for anyone that uses Amazon music HD/Ultra. I found a few tracks labeled Dolby Atmos. Vandallus, sounds like a cool retro 80s metal band to me, but Vandallus "Dolby Atmos outbreaks". Receiver says Dolby surround but the tracks sound very discrete. It sounds very, very cool. Now I have no idea what exactly is going on but things seem to be placed in certain speakers. It's very cool actually.

Atmos tracks are multichannel tracks. Don’t know why Amazon only allows it on Echo. Apple Music and Tidal apps have atmos tracks. Both apps are available on the Apple TV 4K and the Tidal app is available on the Nvidia Shield Pro. Playing atmos tracks from those apps and devices gets you multichannel music. I listen to atmos tracks daily. I like it. “Spatial Audio” for headphones is virtual surround but works like stationary speakers. So, if one turns head, vocals stay put as if in front of real stationary speakers. Tidal supports 360 Reality Audio for headphones. It is another virtual surround format. Any tracks with atmos metadata will trigger dolby atmos mode. If it shows Dolby Surround, it’s just upmixing a two channel PCM track.

Yeah I get that, that's true which is why the entire thing is confusing. Again this all hurts my head trying to understand it. I'm giving up as I did in the past.

It’s certainly not a hardware issue with the Fire Cube. Amazon can add support for atmos music at any time. I’m guessing it has something to do with other agreements and licensing issues. Apple only started their lossless service that includes Spatial Audio(atmos tracks) a couple of months ago. Before them, only Tidal had atmos tracks one could stream from the Apple TV and Nvidia Shield.

I just signed up for Tidal, 2 bucks for 60 days, I mean can't beat that. Already listen to 5.1 music, I don't do Atmos for movies so no Atmos set up here but it's DD+ right now on my receiver. Sounds excellent. Amazon has to get on the ball here because I'm so wrapped up in Amazon for music and many other things. I'm not giving up Amazon music.

Nice! Yes, the Fire Cube supports Tidal Atmos. So, if not using an atmos capable receiver, DD+ will come over without metadata but can still be enjoyed.

To the OP. I know using the Firestick you need to set the streaming device itself to send DD+ and not plain DD or PCM to get 24/192. Your tv audio out setting may be set to stereo or possibly in the Amazon HD music app. Only difference I noticed is the 24/192 is louder than the 24/48 I get when using PCM so I can send music to zone 2 and 3.

I have to say just using this service for 30 minutes last night in super impressed. The Master quality music sounds fantastic. There is a deep depth to the music, very cool. I have since learned as usually there is controversy over MQA. Every thing stirs controversy apparently. Especially in the audio business.
