Coz came to MKE and Time Warner cable broadcast it. I watched a lot of it to see what he had to say. I thought it was interesting and what I found sad was the crowd's immediate reaction compared with what happened here in the following week. He had them all excited when he said that people should take responsibility for their actions, men shouldn't look at getting multiple women pregnant as a sign of virility, kids should stay out of gangs and parents should realize that their children's education is their ticket out of poverty. He told people to make sure the kids know who their parents are, that women aren't objects for their angry sexual urges, children aren't punching bags and it's not all whitey's fault.

The next week, we had 7 murders, beatings, arson, muggings, and car chases. We still have extremely high teenage pregnancy and high school dropout rates and MKE is still one of the most segregated cities in the country. On a good note, the murder rate has dropped dramatically over the last 10-15 years (I think we had 87 last year) and other violent crime is down.

You can't convert meters to miles unless you either know the exact conversion factor or use some intermediate unit conversions.

Telling people that they're failing won't get anyone re-elected and that's their main concern and the role of government isn't to act as our nanny. They're in place to protect our national borders, make laws that are needed (they ought to start looking at this point because most of the "laws" they write and enact are definitely not needed at a national level) and work for the good of the country.

I have been wanting politicians to tell people that they're doing a bad job as parents but that would be like the pot calling the kettle 'black' and I think that if government gives handouts, they should be able to tell the recipients that they need to stop destructive behavior and become better educated. Bad people telling others that they're doing a bad job just doesn't get the desired results. For them to point fingers at themselves, well, that's just not going to happen and big governments need people to depend on them.

It's okay though... he's embodies the left. He, like those on the opposite side who are just as misguided can only see things one way... the kind of individual who will cut off their nose to spite their face.

He's allowed to say those sorts of things. Because unlike a conservative, it's just assumed fact that he must be superior and above all such things and not really mean anything by it. Coming from a liberal, those comments are tolerated because it somehow has a deeper, more well thought out meaning to it... it just must be that.

You know, all this reminds back about 10 years ago when I was running a decent sized marketing company of about 350 people. I allowed our HR people to get involved with hiring convicted individuals who were in a program to get into the business world.

We hired this guy Russell, a black guy, who had a long criminal history, but oddly enough, came from a strong family background. His father a doctor and he had a stay at home mom. Yet, despite the priviledged life he had, he chose crime.

Anyway, he would often times come into my office to speak with me. I had an open door policy and anyone was allowed to come see me to talk about whatever it was that was on their mind. I had good conversations with Russell. He wasn't the greatest employee though despite being pretty damn smart. He was just lazy and made conscience decisions to do the exact opposite of what he should. Everytime his manager would try to discusse things with him, he brought up the race card and felt hassled by the man. I always found this odd as 3 of my 5 managers of his area were actually black.

Eventually, we had to let him go. I remember he came to my office with a huge chip on shoulder, not at all willing to accept any responsibility. I remember the next couple of lines verbatim:

Russ: Dude you're dogging me because I'm black. You just see me as a n**ger, nothing more. You firing me because I'm black.

Me: No Russ, I'm firing you because you're an ********* And being an ********* transends being black or being a woman, or any other excuse people think they get fired for.

It was odd to me because I never thought of Russ as a black guy really. I never thought to myself when I took that particular management team out for dinner that I'm out having drinks with three black guys, a white guy, and a pasty white Scottish guy that I could barely understand. They were just my employees and more importantly my friends. It's not until Russ made such a big deal about him being black that I thought about him being black. He went from being just an ********* to a black ********* because that's how he wanted to be seen... basically how he forced me to see him.

What is "*********"? None of the words I'm thinking of has that number of letters.

And if you tell them they're all the same in your eyes, they'll accuse you of seeing them as just a droid or a number, right? There's no pleasing some people.
