You could tell that without the source material they kind of went "uhhh, let's do this" and people probably went "why?" because it probably didn't make a whole lot of sense. Fortunately, as @Gmoney pointed out to me, the author hasn't finished the GOT story yet in his books. So there is hope that Martin will give us what we deserve.
