I am getting no menu on new tv with my yamaha rx-v2600.
I really don't know if I have set up this correctly. My manuals for the tv, cable box and receiver all have different ways to hook this up. I want everything to run through the receiver (let the receiver do the upscaling). Here is how I have things hooked up.
1) Cable (from wall) hooked to "Cable In" on S/A 8300HD
2) "Cable Out" on cable box hooked to "Ant.1/Main" on Mits. WD-52528
3) "HDMI-1" on TV to "HDMI-OUT" on rx-v2600
4) "HDMI" on cable box to "HDMI-1" on rx-v2600
5) Comp Vid cables from DVD to rxv2600 W/ coax audio

I am really anxious to get this set up and have been messing with it going on 8 hours. (notice my name) I have tried (I think) everything, but to no avail.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

I am sure you are not a moron. You are just a little inexperienced with setting up this equpiment. I'll see if I can help, although I am sure someone else may have some better Ideas. All of my suggestions are assuming you want to watch TV and DVD with the surround sound on correct?
1.) Check
2.) HDMI from Cable Box to Receiver HDMI Input 1
3.) HDMI Output on receiver to HDMI input on TV
4.) HDMI Output from DVD to HDMI input 2 although you can use the component video cables and the digital coax cable as you have listed. Then you would have to connect the component video out to the tv component in.

Hope this helps you get started. Keep us updated.

I am not sure that I follow you on #4 of your post.
I changed everything else. Could you please clarify?
Thanx a bunch

Sure can!!
If your DVD player has HDMI capability then connect the HDMI output from the DVD player to the HDMI input 2 on the receiver. Using the HDMI cable carries digital Audio as well as digital Video so you don't need the digital coax cable. If you want to use the component cables then connect the component out cables from the DVD player to the DVD component inputs on the receiver then connect the component out cables on the receiver to the component in jacks on the TV then connect the Digital Coax out from the DVD player to the Digital Coax input on the receiver. You may have to enter the setup menu on your dvd play and select the type of video and audio connections you are using and that info would be in your DVD manual. I'll be patiently waiting to see if this works.

edit: I just saw in the manual (page 124) for you receiver that says you don't have to use the component out cable to the TV. There is an option that allows you to set up the up conversion. Look at page 88 in you manual for this.

The first line of the post said he is not getting a menu on the tv. Does that mean you are not seeing the receiver's setup menu on the TV? If so, the receiver may not be able to overlay the menu on the video signal when the only connection to the tv is HDMI. I'm sure the manual would mention that if that is the case; eg. many receivers will not display the menu on the tv over component video either. You might have to use another connection from the receiver's composite or s-video 'monitor out' to an input on the tv in order to be able to view the menu (and change the tv to that input).

dburchet... YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!

This is the first time in now 9 long, long, long hours that I have seen a menu.
Thank goodness... I am going to work away again. This time with a smile on my face. At least until my next bump.

Thanks again. You have made my day a lot better. If you ever need advice on concrete supplies, let me know:D

Another (similar) Moron

Hi there,

I have a similar problem, which I am getting no where fast on. In this case, I have an RX-V2500 A/V connected to a toshiba HDTV, via component cables. I also have a Motorola HDTV DVR settop box, also connected to the V2500 via component video cables, and with audio via toslink. The cable stuff works fine, but I can't get the Yamaha GUI to send clean to the TV. The same cables send the cable signal, but the GUI is tripled and fuzzy on the top of the screen. I turned off the Cable box (in case this was overlaying for some reason), with no change in the ugly GUI menu.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks, Barry

Help Again Please!!!!!!

Okay... When I turn on the receiver my cable box sends out a message that says, "Your HDTV does not support HDCP. Please disconnect the HDMI connector and use YPrPb connection to continue watching TV."

I have seen on some other posts that S/A and Yamaha have trouble linking up via HDMI. My question is: If I change the HDMI to a Component Video connection, does it make a difference? I wanted this receiver for it's upscaling capabilities, power and functions. Is this going to limit the features? I am sorry to keep bothering, but I just want it to work correctly...

I heard the same thing

I heard the same thing, and this is why I went the component cable route. The claim (from two folks) is that the cable operators have a disagreement on the HDMI interface, so that there is not compatability to transfer through the Yamaha A/Vs. I don't know if this is accurate or not. But, it did cause me to go with the V2500 instead of the (more expensive and HDMI possessing) V2600.

I was reading the manual for your TV and it is HDCP compliant. Are you asking if you are going to see a picture difference between HDMI and component cables??

As an alternative I think your TV had dual HDMI inputs correct? If this is the case:
1.) Connect the cable box directly to the TV using the first HDMI input on the TV.
2.) Using the 2nd HDMI input on the TV, plug the HMDI output on the receiver to the 2nd HMDI input on the TV.
3.) Using a Digital Optical Audio cable, plug an audio cable into the digital audio output on the cable box into the digital audio input on the receiver.

This might be a backwards way at going about it, but it might work.

I think I finally have it, but......

I think I finally have it all hooked up properly (thanks dburchet and all), but my Television still is only showing programming in 480P. Even on the HD channels that Cox Cable provides. The picture looks OK, but during action scenes and sports it is a blurry mess. I know that some artifacting (pixelization??) will occur on LCD screens, but this is absolutely terrible. I looked long and hard for tv's and picked this one because it looked great during sports. I couldn't see any of this in the showroom. I watched a fast action tennis match and parts of a playoff football game and little to none of this blurring ocurred. This TV supposedly has a very fast refresh rate, and in my understanding, this eliminates or helps eliminate the pixel blur.

Believe it or not, I have read the manual, but I am not seeing where I can change the scan rate to 720P or 1080i. Then again, I have been messing with this thing for 2 days. Even minor adjustments are taxing my brain.

Again, thanks for all of your help. I would still be looking at a blank screen right now without it.......

Well this doesn't sound right. I doubt it's a fault with the tv/receiver etc. Sounds like a connection or setting problem to me. :)

First things first. Taking HDMI from the cable box directly to the receiver and looking at page 45 (part 3) of your receiver's manual for reference, if you bring up the menu's Audio/Video's Signal Info. screen, you should be able to determine what the signal from the cable box is.

Small steps...:)

This is where my problem lies. I cannot (at this time) use HDMI from my cable box to my receiver. When I do it brings up the hdcp error. I also cannot run the HDMI out to my tv because of same said error. It seems if I run any HDMI out on this receiver that I get this error. I have heard about this problem with the cable box (Scientific Atlantic 8300HD) but not with this TV. The customer service from these companies are closed on Sunday. Is there some type of firmware upgrade for the TV and/or the Cable Box? It seems to me that I might have just blown an awful lot of money for this receiver if I can't use the upscaling properties (or HDMI). All I wanted was a simple system that looks and sounds good, and all I am getting are errors....

Tried earlier (well I think I did) and Still wouldn't work....
I took HDMI from cable box to tv
component from cable box to receiver
component out from receiver to television (also tried HDMI)

Buckle, after all of the different ways I have tried to hook this thing up, I can't be sure I had it like this. I am going to try again right now.

Sorry for the delayed response; I've just noticed something which I'm praying will save the day.

I think that an upconverted signal maybe output from the component jacks of your receiver, not just the HDMI jacks.

On page 87 of the receiver's manual, set Conversion to On.
On page 88, set HDMI Up-Scaling to (just for example) 1080i (forget for now about the Component I/P settings).

Run a set of component cables from your cable box to your receiver and your receiver to your t.v. Now, go to the receiver's menu (refer to page 45 (part 3) of the receiver's manual) and toggle the right button to get the Audio/Video's Signal Info (video) information.

With a bit of luck, you'll see something like: Analogue resolution 480i (or whatever is coming from the cable box) > 1080i (the setting you previously made).

Is this true? (fingers crossed)

I have to leave for a couple of hours (thank goodness), but I will try this as soon as I get home. Thank you so much for spending so much time on my "little" (actually huge) problem...
