Trying to Set-up new system

New Audiophyte would appreciate some feedback...

OK, this is my first post, and everything I see on this forum seems very useful.

I have been researching a lot of websites to begin to put together my first HT system. I already own a Denon AVR3805 and DVD2910 and am now auditioning speakers. In the future I'll have a big screen tv, but once I save a little more $.

When auditioning speakers, what are the essential questions I should be asking the sales person? What are the essential things I should be telling him about what I want? I know room size, budget, and music/movie watching are important, but anything else? Does a more expensive system generally mean it's a better system? Suppose I'm looking at the DefTech Mythos 1 and 4, the 1 is a bigger floorstanding speaker than the 4 and has more drivers. Does that mean it will sound better, or does that mean it's just meant for larger rooms? Is it possible to get too big of a speaker for a room?

Any beginner suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello syee527x, and welcome to the forum...

I am new myself here and everyone here is extremely helpful. I really can't help you with your question as I have never purchased speakers (mine were gifted to me). Just to let you know, you posted this at the bottom of a thread regarding a set-up question. To get proper feed back you probably need to post this in the loudspeaker section or in the Beginner section. Just click on the New Thread button, and put your question there. I am sure you will get a lot of response to your question in either of those places.

Sorry, I couldn't help you with the speakers. Adam

I am getting no menu on new tv with my yamaha rx-v2600.
I really don't know if I have set up this correctly. My manuals for the tv, cable box and receiver all have different ways to hook this up. I want everything to run through the receiver (let the receiver do the upscaling). Here is how I have things hooked up.
1) Cable (from wall) hooked to "Cable In" on S/A 8300HD
2) "Cable Out" on cable box hooked to "Ant.1/Main" on Mits. WD-52528
3) "HDMI-1" on TV to "HDMI-OUT" on rx-v2600
4) "HDMI" on cable box to "HDMI-1" on rx-v2600
5) Comp Vid cables from DVD to rxv2600 W/ coax audio

I am really anxious to get this set up and have been messing with it going on 8 hours. (notice my name) I have tried (I think) everything, but to no avail.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
check your monitor out on yammy ,run single cable to video input to tv,check your blue screen menu.

rx-v2600 hdcp error

hi guys, i just purchased RX-V2600 receiver, 42" LG DU-42PX12X, and the LG 514 upscaling dvd/vhs combo. i am having problems setting up the hdmi output. my dvd player is connected to the receiver with a hdmi to hdmi cable and from receiver to tv is a hdmi to dvi cable. after watching a movie for 10 mins, the receiver displays a hdcp error. i called both technical support agents and both were no help. all my appliance are hdcp compliant and i have tried several hdmi cables. any suggestions will really be helpful.

Hi there,

I have a similar problem, which I am getting no where fast on. In this case, I have an RX-V2500 A/V connected to a toshiba HDTV, via component cables. I also have a Motorola HDTV DVR settop box, also connected to the V2500 via component video cables, and with audio via toslink. The cable stuff works fine, but I can't get the Yamaha GUI to send clean to the TV. The same cables send the cable signal, but the GUI is tripled and fuzzy on the top of the screen. I turned off the Cable box (in case this was overlaying for some reason), with no change in the ugly GUI menu.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks, Barry
Hi Barry,

Not sure if you already found a solution for this. Could be the same problem Im having with my v2500. The Yamaha outputs its GUI as NTSC only. If your display device (and source eg cable signal) are set for PAL then the GUI will be in black and white.
