I guess this is why the signal info screen is only showing the analog upconversion.
Yes, this would explain it.

Sorry to keep bothering....
Not at all. :) By the way, I've Googled your t.v; Very nice.

Ok, let's start from scratch and see if we can get DVD's working first. If we can, then we'll worry about cable.

1. Remove all cables from everything.

2. Connect a set of component cables and a digital coaxial cable from your DVD player to the corressponding component and coaxial digital jacks on the receiver for DVD input. These should now be the only cables inputting a signal to the receiver.

3. Connect a set of component cables from your receiver to your t.v. This should be the only cable inputting to the t.v. and ouputting from the receiver.

4. On page 88 of your receiver's manual, select Conversion to On, and HDMI Up-Scaling to Through. Note: Going by the diagram on page 22, you can only get a picture from component to pass through an HDMI cable if Conversion is set to On. Also note that this point number 4 is only to allow you to get a picture so that you can see the menu on your t.v. to change the settings.

5. Connect an HDMI cable from your receiver's HDMI OUT jack to either of the t.v's two HDMI jacks and remove the component cables from the t.v. to the receiver. The HDMI cable should now be the only cable inputting to the t.v. and ouputting from the receiver.

6. Play a DVD and just let it run.

What have you got? Hopefully, you should be hearing the sound and seeing the picture of the DVD through your stereo and t.v. respectively. If you are not getting a picture, first try flipping the receiver to (for example) CD input then back onto DVD input in case the receiver needs to 're-recognise' that an HDMI cable has been attached. If this still doesn't yield a picture, try swapping the HDMI jack on the t.v. for the other spare HDMI jack to confirm that it's not just one of them that's 'bad'.

7. Report your findings...

I did have a setting wrong on the tv yesterday. I called Mitsubishi and they walked me through setting up the hdmi inputs. They then had me test the HDMI with my cable box. (Took the receiver completely out of the equation)
Everything worked fine. When I reintroduced the receiver the same problem occurred. I took the HDMI from receiver to the television (took out component vid cables) and got sound, but the picture went to a blue screen.
Mitsubishi told me that the HDMI inputs on the TV were in working order, but that the HDMI on my receiver were not working properly.

I will try what you suggested on the last post as soon as I get home. Thanks

Adam

Hmm. One way to test the receiver would be to take HDMI from the cable-box to it. If the HDMI indicator at the top left of your receiver's front panel display lights up (you may need to assign the HDMI to the input you're currently using; refer to manual page 81), the two components are 'talking to one another'. If not, then I guess it is the receiver causing the problem. :(

Well, I just found out I have to go to a children's birthday party here in a few, so I can't work on this tonight. I will try all of your suggestions tomorrow evening. Thanks

If the cable-box works fine using HDMI to the t.v., what makes you think the cable-box is the problem?

Also, the link you provided is broken. :(

As has been previously posted, you are not a moron. You are too hard on yourself. Everything is easy only if you know how.

Hopefully, I got the full link in there this time.
Yes, the link works fine now. That thread was to do with the RXV4600 as opposed to your RXV2600, but I take your point. Do you happen to have a Scientific Atlanta or Motorola cable-box?

I have the Scientific Atlantic 8300HD.

I called my cable company, and they would not check to see if there is a firmware patch available. So then I tried Scientific Atlantic. They tell me that I have to go through my cable company.

I tried to PM Gene (the one who wrote the thread that I linked) to see if he had some kind of reference # for the patch or who I should talk to. I am awaiting a response from him.

In the meantime, I am going to try all of your recomendations tonight. I am taking out every cable (except the speaker wires) and starting from scratch.

I really don't consider myself a moron. I say it sort of "tongue in cheek". I am really new to all of this and I feel you (and others) have really helped me to understand what I am doing. Thanks for the quick responses. Adam

I'm sure he'll answer. By the way, what time is it with you right now?

I think you need to make a trip to the "BOOMING METROPOLIS" that is Midwest City, OKlahoma, to do a custom install. :)

I am getting carpal tunnel syndrome :D

Everything works perfectly after following the above steps.(as fas as the DVD) In doing this, I am allowed to change the HDMI settings (they are not grayed out) I can upscale the image from the dvd player:)

After getting the DVD working properly (via HDMI), I tried doing this. It gives me the HDCP error that we discussed in previous posts. THe HDMI light in the upper left hand corner of the receiver. It appears that the receiver is getting the signal, but the cable box is blocking it.

Correct me if I am wrong , but I assume this is the problem that was discussed in the link. I think I need the firmware upgrade!!!!

If you can get a picture from your t.v. playing a DVD through the receiver and using only an HDMI cable between the receiver and t.v., I would be inlined to say that yes, it sounds like the cable-box is causing the problem. However, you previously noted that taking HDMI from the cable-box directly to the t.v. worked without error, so in fact this still leaves us not knowing which component is causing the problem. That said, I have always considered it highly unlikely (though not impossible) that either your t.v. or receiver were at fault.

In any event, it's not a problem as you can still get your cable-t.v. High Definition signal by using component cables from the cable-box to the receiver, and keeping the HDMI cable from the receiver to the t.v. Sound from both the cable-box and DVD player should be taken to the receiver via a coaxial digital cable ideally, though an optical digital will work equally well.

Assuming everything is then working fine, the only thing left to do is update your signature. :)
