Unfortunately the radio show that I listen to pretty much slammed it. They said the visuals and action were great, but that you might as well take a nap between the action scenes. They also said that it ripped off just about every other Sci-Fi movie, Star Wars, The Matrix, Blade Runner. The guy said, "I kept waiting for someone to say, 'These aren't the droids you're looking for'".

I'll still go see it though.

After "The Matrix", everything else including "Tron" seems ordinary.

"The Matrix" completely blew my mind.:D

But Tron? Some guy creating a game/computer network and going inside of it and there are actually "computer people" inside this computer network is just plain bedtime-story-silly.:D

I'll see it anyway, whether it be in theaters or on BD.:D

Not just "computer people" but computer people that look like the people that programmed them. Sorry, but I think that's cool.

The Matrix changed sci-fi movies, but I'd have to say that the whole concept of The Matrix was heavily influenced by Tron and in the day, Tron changed sci-fi in much the same way.

The radio talk show host is, at best, misguided. There's even a possibility he's an idiot.

Excellent movie, I really enjoyed it.

Olivia Wilde was HOT!

He quite often is an idiot. But there's 2 of them and I tend to agree with the other one. And though he didn't slame the movie as much as the first guy, he also said that it wasn't that good.

Buddy of mine saw it at lunch in IMAX3D and said it was very good.

As far as I know, I think I heard/read that...wait I think it was during a 80's trivia game when I was a little drunk...lol, but anyways, it seems that the original Tron was up for some type of nomination for best picture or something like that but it was shot down, because they felt they had " cheated " by using computer animation to create the movie so i did not count as a " real " movie.

I beleive that the original Tron was a pioneer in the sci-fi animation/filming.

Tron and The Last Starfighter were essentially the forerunners and the first feature length films that used CGI combined with live action.

I hardly think that the CGI in Tron is hardly involved in the quality of the film. You have to give them marks for inguinity for using colored glass for the bulk of their effects.

In the year it was released, the Motion Picture Academy refused to nominate Tron for special effects because, according to director Steven Lisberger, "The Academy thought we cheated by using computers".[18] The film did, however, earn Oscar nominations in the categories of Best Costume Design and Best Sound. In 1997, Ken Perlin of the Mathematical Applications Group, Inc. won an Academy Award for Technical Achievement for his invention of Perlin noise for Tron.[19]
I thought I wasn't off the mark by that much, this is from Wikipedia.

That seriously doesn't surprise me at all, with all the handcrafted paper and pencil 2D animation workers, how they saw the coming age of computers and were completely and utterly in fear for the future of their jobs in that industry... They were completely distraught, and many of the committee members voting had strong ties to the old school animation houses and people.

It was the beginning of the end for them, so everyone in was shaking their fists at computer animation in the day - which led to the kind of bashing spelled out with that statement...

If you want to see a good documentary - check out "The Pixar Story", I was an awesome timeline of these event and how they unfolded. I also remember seeing something about ILM - industrial Light and Magic but I can't remember what the show/documentary was on TV...

Well folks, the critics are in for Tron Legacy.....I give it a 9/10. It was a realy excellent movie.

The graphics were very cool and the story line was also interesting, I think it's possible to continue this story line and keep the Tron franchise going. I get the feeling they left it open just like watching an X-Files ending....

Anyhow, me and my Dad, who is 65 thought it was awsom, a bit loud...lol but awsom. We went to the Imax 3D show with reserved seatings, got he best seats, pre paid out tickets and heh voila...well, it was actually my early xmas stocking present.

Ive heard nothing but good things from my friends who saw it. I still think I'm going to wait until it comes out on Blu-Ray. I really don't care for the movie theaters these days.

Not nerdy enough would be my line. It missed all the computer jargon that made the original. Entertaining great use of 3d, but the story was a bit strange to be honest.

My brother said he didn't like it. My buddy who works for Autodesk said they got to go see it free and he loved it and wants to go see it again :) (Animation for the movie was done using Autodesk software).

Yeah, probably Autodesk Flame (I think it's like a quarter of a million dollars for a license... or maybe it's less and then with basic equipment it gets around there.).

Everything is made using Autodesk software pretty much. They keep pushing the graphical envelope because they have the budget of architecture, gamers and movie developers. It is one of the good mergers pushing technology.

I thought it was ok. The wife fell asleep. I just wanted to see it in 2-D but both theaters in me were only showing it in 3-D. I don't know if it was the 3-D or the theater, but the movie was VERY dark. It was hard to see things at times. Watching the commercials on TV looks much better than what we saw in the theater.

Anyway, I'd give it a B-. It wasn't great, but it didn't suck. The CG Jeff Bridges was a little weird, but overall looked pretty realistic.
