Speakers and the way they look... it matters.

Snell Phantoms are unquestionably the best speaker I have ever heard. They have redefined what I think a speaker should be and defined what I could never afford.

I am still looking at all the amps :D WOW.

I wouldn't mind too terribly having five of those in a 5.1 setup.:D
You would need a large room to fit them in. Also, they are more for playing loud than playing deep (which makes them more like professional speakers than home high fidelity speakers). The -6dB point is 45Hz (JBL does not specify the -3dB point). That makes them worse than my little Aurum Cantus Leisure 2SE (original U.S. version) speakers for bass depth with one 5 1/4" woofer, with a -6dB point of 42Hz. Of course, the JBLs are much more efficient and handle much more power, so they can play much, much louder. But my speakers can play loud enough that I find it painful, so that would not do me any good in my room, even if the JBL speakers would fit. It does mean that they would work in an auditorium where my speakers would be inadequate (due to not playing loud enough for an auditorium).

To put this another way, if you wanted actual deep bass with them, you would need that ".1" in the 5.1 system you imagine with them. Of course, you could have a lot of upper bass with just the JBLs. On the other hand, for home use, one could use an equalizer to boost the deeper bass with them to get a deeper response, since no sane use of them in a normal home would ever get near the maximum output of them in normal use.

Also, moving them would be quite a bit of work. They weigh 302 pounds each, without the packaging or grills. In the package it is 383 pounds.

They are, however, attractive in the picture, which is what this thread is about. And, in my opinion, they are much more attractive than most of the speakers pictured in this thread. But I would not want them for my home use.

Still a big fan of the look of the Paradigm Sig S8's but have also always had a lust for the Klipsch Paladium P39f, got to see and hear the first pair sold in the US a few miles from me.... Fit and Finish was extremely nice.

If I could afford 5 of those JBLs, then I could probably also afford a 6,000sf house with a 1,000sf HT room and 4 kick-a$$ subwoofers.:D

I actually prefer 5 Revel Salon2s over those JBLs. The -10dB level is 17Hz.:D

I saw when Seaton posted those as well. Those speakers make the submersives look tiny.

No, the speakers are Rockport Arrakis. I'd link to a product page but the manufacturer's site is just a dinky little flash thing.

I hate to admit it, but I was hoping I'd like the Salon 2 after seeing it in black. Without the grilles on I think it is one of the coolest looking speakers ever. Lucky for me it sounds even better than it looks.

I could imagine what is takes to deliver... Gene has some recent experiences, but his new status speakers are only THIRD of the weight !!

I wonder if they can be disassembled and moved in pieces like Gene's. Looks like there's some seperation between the mid & woofer sections. One would think that most ultra high end speaker makers have ways to get them to customers with a reduced chance of being ADTG802'd - returns due to shipping damage can't be cheap with these models...

Side note - I love the way huge WMTMW speakers look. Just look so imposing and ready to belt out huge SPL levels. :D

Yeah I would love a pair of those arrakis speakers, their aesthetics match the sound of the electronic music I like, some mean-*** drum'n'bass, trance, and dubstep. No doubt the folks at Rockport would facepalm at the thought of their speakers being wasted on electronic music though.

Who thinks the ugly duckling can't be purdy?! Perhaps the designer of these babies had a little too much acid. Beautiful copper paint job, though. ;)

Love the look, but;

92db/2.83v sensitivity is a little low for a speaker that size IMO, that's only ~89db/watt. They would need some monster power for output to suit their looks.
