Yeah, but it isn't just gamers vs HT enthusiasts. It's just not. That's the point and you keep wanting to reduce it down to a combined small segment of consumers and limit other possibilities. There's more than one option here! I don't see the issue with maintaining the same qualities that make for the best pq, while adding a few game friendly fetatures. Catering to gamers can only help boost sales for the more expensive, higher quality units just by adding a few features. I fail to see how that ruins anything. Please don't try to separate Gene from what you call a "false dichotomy" even though he did not write it and no he isn't acting in the capacity of an Editor of a publication here. This is an opinion piece and not journalistic. Gene posted this on his platform in the same manner as when some retweets a tweet on Twitter.
You're the one breaking it down to one answer! "Gamers will ruin the industry"!Here again, the topic of this thread: "Should Home Theater Embrace Gaming to Save the Industry?
In truth, at this time, there is no absolute objective answer to this question, however, for some strange reason you seem to think that it is. Here the poster, which happens to be Gene, is soliciting our opinions, why can't you admit that? You keep demanding some facts or something. Either you think, believe, or feel that Home Theater should embrace the gaming industry or you don't, and your reasons for having that opinion. This isn't a question that demands a fact-based answer. I personally don't believe HT should embrace the gaming industry and I have stated my reason for believing so.
I think we disagreeYou're the one breaking it down to one answer! "Gamers will ruin the industry"!
Yes I'm asking for evidence or a reasoned argument and you're not providing either. If you're going to make a derogatory claim about a group of people then you need to come with more than just an assertion!
Look, this is how it works. Person A makes a positive claim. Person B doesn't believe person A and asks for evidence. The onus is on person A. This is what we call the burden of proof and I think you keep deflecting, straw manning, no true scotsmanning, false dichotomy, sophistry, dip, duck, dodge, dive and ducking to get out of it.
You made a claim. I don't believe you. How do we resolve it?
Ya think? LolI think we disagree![]()
Sure, it comes down to demographics and there are more than 2 of them. Which is partly why I don't believe that gamers by themselves are ruining the industry. Lemme show you what I mean. With that being said, I think it comes down to demographics. I believe you're from a younger generation than myself, although we both seem to enjoy A/V, we don't share a passion for gaming. People in my age group, for the most part, don't game.
That's cool. If I ask for your opinion and you give it to me, although my own opinion might differ, I will just have to accept it.Ya think? Lol

Snobby elitists who try to marginalize a segment of the market are ruining the industry.
There you go. My opinion, and by your philosophy you just need to accept it with no evidence, no research and no good reason.
Therefore I win.

I have to say, if gamers keep this hobby alive, I'm good with it.That's cool. If I ask for your opinion and you give it to me, although my own opinion might differ, I will just have to accept it.
My opinion right now is, you are completely wrong with your original assertion and I do not accept it as true. That's cool. If I ask for your opinion and you give it to me, although my own opinion might differ, I will just have to accept it.
I don’t think they will. Seems like they’re pushing their own proprietary immersive nonsense. I say that because it won’t play nice with ANYTHING else I’m sure. Hate that shitt.I’m on the fence for PS5 since no Atmos games are planned so far. I’m sure Sony could add the feature if they wanted to though.
You are so right. Gamers cannot ruin anything because HT purchasers are free to reject or accept peripheral feature sets that either do or do not have perceived value. You're the one breaking it down to one answer! "Gamers will ruin the industry"!

Well put! This is my whole point from the beginning with my little debate with Auditor55.People remain so funny about this.
It doesn't have to 'HURT' a product to add features to it. The perfect example is @panteragstk above. Half of the features you want are exactly what we ALL want in a home theater projector. 120hz support, 4K native, etc. Like, you know, a JVC projector which already exists. Get lag times down super low and add VRR... and it is still a JVC projector, but now is stepped up with great gaming support. Does it hurt the projector in any way to be better at gaming than it was before? Nope, of course not.
Other responses follow this same though which befuddles me. Added features, whether useful, like VRR, or pointless, like RGB, don't negate the actual video quality. Same with audio quality. The question is whether reaching out and including these features can make these products more profitable to the industry as a whole.
That's my concern, the market will cater to what the gamer wants. I believe that will happen. In the case of LG OLED, I believe they're really chasing the market right now. Even though LG is the leader in OLED, they make all of the panels, yet their OLED displays are considered 3rd tier when it comes to picture quality, behind Panasonic and Sony. However, when comes to gaming, they are a clear number one.I have to say, if gamers keep this hobby alive, I'm good with it.
BUT, I don't want the market to cater to what they think gamers want. RGB nonsense isn't it. We want bleeding edge performance for our money. My philosophy has always been the same with A/V, but I stay away from bleeding edge on both fronts because I'm not a fan of paying to beta test things.
Will I get a Playstation 5? You bet I will. Will it be in my theater? No it will not...unless they make a 4k 120hz VRR projector that has EXCELLENT image quality. Preferably laser LCos too. One can dream.
Panels are one thing, but Sony and Panasonic have always had a leg up in picture processing. The difference according to the reviews is almost negligible though. Especially after calibration. That's my concern, the market will cater to what the gamer wants. I believe that will happen. Sounds like you shouldn't be buying the LG then. Good thing there are plenty of models for either camp. Huh. Look at that, your non-issue is solved! That's my concern, the market will cater to what the gamer wants. I believe that will happen.
