Now I am working on rebuilding my system and along with researching new AVR I am looking at subs. Right now I'm strongly considering the Monoprice 16" THX sub however I loved the SVS so not opposed to getting one in the same price range. Budget is 2500. I guess my question is for anyone that may have some experience with the old PB 12/plus 2 and current subs out there? I got spoiled and don't want to go backwards in sub quality or output. I think any of these big internally-powered subs will get you that powerful bass output. But I will throw in another idea - externally powered subs. Why? 1. Lighter in weight (RBH SV-1212NR Reference Signature is 107 lbs) 2. Amp is external so more flexible - you can use any amp and don’t have to worry about replacing an internal sub amp in the future that might be backorder or unavailable 3. I think quality of sound is going to match SVS offerings, for a little less money. The 16 you're looking at looks like a superstar. It's a lot of sub. Both physically and perfomance. I have a little time to decide but so far most of you have kinda confirmed my thoughts after countless hours looking around the sites looking at reviews. Let’s see what the deals are when I pull the trigger. We moved and at the time the sub was living in a closet not being used and I let it go. . Really leaning towards the mono 16. Wife was used to the size of the SVS and they look too be about the same size so she is already broke into the idea of what a sub should look like. Not sure I could pull off two. Lol. reading the reviews of the Mono and seems like the output is higher than the svs and it has lower extension. I do enjoy music running 2 channel direct but really want a good performer for movies. Looks like the 16 will fit the bill. And yeah 2500 is top of budget saving the rest for a new AVR and leaning towards the A6A on a comparable Denon. I appreciate all the comments this has been my go to site since around 2005, everyone has been kind enough to comment even if the questions are asked multiple times.

I’d like to be close to reference levels not sure what that is equal to in DB’s. I’m thinking if I go with the 16” I could always add one more down the road once the rest of the system is upgraded. mike.
