One of my favorite shows, "The Newsroom" seems more relevant than ever these days.

Looks half decent to me.
Good, now I need it at half price and ... well, do I really need an optical drive? That's like a CD, DVD or Blu-ray drive right? I want one for the purpose of making audio CD's mostly but it would be nice to be able to play a Blu-ray.

Currently I use an HDMI out to a monitor and USB for:
  1. Keyboard
  2. Sound Card
  3. Wireless Mouse Rec'r Thingy
  4. Printer
I should probably talk to the guys up the road at the Pawn Shop. They've got a dozen laptops and I do get the nice guy discount.

Also, tinder is a weird place.
For the record: I am only taking part in this part of the discussion in order to encourage the free tech support but what the hell are you doing sniffing around tinder? Dude, I'll give you Rick's number. You don't have to be taking it to the street like that.

EDIT: Also, did you get a bath rug yet? 20 buck. Best thing evah.

What exactly are you doing on this thing? That will ultimately determine how much processing speed you need. Whatever you get make sure it comes with Windows 10. If it has USB 3 then an external BD drive could make the whole thing more cost effective than having one come with an internal drive. I'm seeing one's for about half that price on Amazon that might work.

LOL I've already got rick's private line. Doug gave it to me. Turns out most "people" on tinder are fake. The other half don't seem to like short fat Asians. Go figure. :D It could also have something to do with my picture being a picture of my bare a$$.

No bath rug. The bath mat was already on the way when you mentioned it. If the bath mat doesn't work out the bath rug will be next on the list. Plus the dog seems to like it. :p

Old time hockey! Sounds like the old days!!!:D
Free Asian tech support for the one time low price of however much money he felt like asking for because he knew I needed that center. Where's BSA, btw? I'm considering putting the monkey flag back up until I get past this time of techno-tribulation.

I understand the Windows 10 requirement. An external BD drive is an excellent idea. I'm not really interested in a dvd drive and that's what's in the $400 Dell. No doubt, I don't need a lot of processing speed but what's happened twice so far is that I've kept my computers until their end of life support thing and by that time their ability to handle high def video becomes a little sluggish. Maybe its the source. But I use only really use the computer for FB, AH, checking bank balances and YouTube. I guess Google maps and burning CD's too. Amazon, sometimes ebay and emails. That's all code for 'I watch porn every waking moment that isn't spent posting in TBT' but by now nobody but Doug is still reading the post and he already knows.

Doug gave it to me.
Spring is the time for love. :D

No bath rug.
They never listen.

Well here's my thought. If you're going to have a laptop and an external BD drive, would you also be willing to have an external harddrive? I'm thinking an Asus laptop with an SSD would make the laptop blazing fast. Nvidia graphics card, I've had good luck with those and they are pretty reliable.

That first one is enough. Given that it has a dvd burner, I can play BRs on something else. My thought is that if you're going to have an optical drive, make it BR or nothing at all but money talks, right? I checked and the 10" depth is the same on my current laptop. That's about all this desk's sliding drawer will accommodate. The price is about right and the 256 GB SSD is actually a little more than I have now.

The girl has to get some secret Amazon code and it's game on. Where TF is BSA?

Agree on SSD drive - it just makes windows work so much smoother and experience in much better overall.
my rec is this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-575G-53VG-15-6-Inch-Windows/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487963762&sr=1-2&keywords=Acer+Aspire+E15

It has decent processor, 1080p display, onboard dvd-burner and an entry level dedicated video card. You could Play metal gear solid v at 720p resolution with medium details.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Maxwell-GPU-940M-GDDR5.153640.0.html

Other goodies include backlit keyboard to see which video category you're choosing and need to type specific performer name or act in the search bar while in dark room...

Very well then, I kind of wanted to stick with Asus but the graphics card and the backlit keyboard are persuasive. Thanks for chiming in. Does it matter that the Asus has a slightly faster processor? 2.5 GHz vs 2.3 GHz? I use my current laptop as a desktop replacement with a backlit USB keyboard and Samsung monitor so the backlit keyboard is not really a big deal but I understand its value should I need to take the laptop on the road.

I also saw the Acer has room for another 8 GB of RAM. That might be cool for later on. Okay, we have a winner. Thanks again.

Well, the where is a difference in cpu performance, but it's not massive:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2556&cmp[]=2865

but Acer has nvidia video card while Asus relies on Intel's onboard video.
For office/internet/video honestly there no difference, but for occasional game intel video card in that cpu is practically useless even for non-heavy 3d games such as Civ IV
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-620.172256.0.html

Since you mainly use for desktop replacement, having dedicated video card and dvd burner is nice bonus.

I think I went way too nerdy here....
My son's nanny thinks she could buy brand new HP/Asus/Dell in Moldova for $300.. Good fucken luck, unless it's fell from the truck or it's a Chromebook with shitty processor.

Much appreciated. I don't have time for nanny jokes because Boston is 45 miles away. Too-da-loo. :)

So it turns out the dating scene for 20 somethings is a sh*t show. Good thing I have a puppy.
