LOL, this guy might be thinking we are 'killing Democracy' but he knows how to open up and beg for $$ !
Is that all you got out from the article? It has a number of statements that a real conservative would agree with.

He has to eat, too. And, you don't have to pay him if you'd rather not. Regardless, he's a smart cookie.

This is a repeat, at higher speed, of what happened after printing presses first became widely available.

The solution was institutions were set up, some private, some public, which were based on credibility, and became trusted "authorities" - this included some "academies" for the sciences, Newspaper/Journals of note, etc...

It is also worthy of notice that alongside the Newspapers that earned and maintained credibility, there was a long ongoing tradition of Newspapers that posted utter nonsense (sensational nonsense!) - and continued to have a wide and profitable circulation right through to today... the Murdoch owner media are proud examples of the latter (and with a lengthy lineage of sensationalist, populist nonsense).

But yeah there was a period a few centuries ago, where what is true and what is not, were substantially obfuscated in the minds of many people, and it took serious effort by many people to rein this in. (not helped by a church that didn't like "facts" that contradicted its ideological reality).
