While comparing ICE with the Gestapo may be a bit hyperbolic, they certainly are mimicking the secret police tactics of various nasty regimes.

Some comments on statements made in this thread:

While it can lead to deportation, it is not a crime to be in the US without authorization, it is a civil offense.

There were complaints made about illegal immigrants getting benefits. Well, the US treasury is making a profit off of them.

It has been suggested that this is a left vs right debate. As far as I'm concerned, it's more of a debate on the rule of law and basic human decency.

Why not just "shut the border"? How would that work? Forty to fifty percent of people in the US illegally, actually arrived legally. They just stayed past the point they were required to leave.

Want them ALL out? What would be the consequences to the US economy if that actually happened?

Hey, it's not my country, so do what you want. But, it's disheartening to watch Trump and his minions attempting to create a dystopia next door.
The Trump administration seems to be taking the position that ICE agents have absolute immunity:

>>>Several weeks before the shooting, a top ICE official told officers to take “decisive action” if threatened. Immediately after, Mr. Trump and other administration officials said Ms. Good had tried to run the agent over, although a Times video analysis found that she appeared to have turned her vehicle away from him.

That guy is protected by absolute immunity,” Vice President JD Vance said last week of the ICE agent who killed Ms. Good, 37. “He was doing his job.”

On Tuesday, the Homeland Security Department reiterated that sentiment to its agents, posting a clip on social media of Stephen Miller, a White House deputy chief of staff, saying, “You have immunity to perform your duties, and no one — no city official, no state official, no illegal alien, no leftist agitator or domestic insurrectionist — can prevent you from fulfilling your legal obligations and duties.”<<< (emphasis added)

I'm not aware of any court decisions supporting absolute immunity. I have not researched this issue, but it strikes me as dubious and I tend to think the law professor quoted in the this article is correct.

>>>“The vice president is simply wrong. There have been a number of cases and judicial pronouncements that say that the individuals are not absolutely immune, and no Supreme Court decision has ever held that. That being said, the road to a prosecution by a state official is tough, and obviously we’re not going to see a federal prosecution in this administration, but there could be a federal prosecution in a subsequent administration. There are some civil damages routes that are available as well. … There are some avenues available for some kind of accountability.”<<<

Why is the Trump administration making these assertions?

It seems to be another example of the administration asserting that it can ignore the law when it wants. If this administration has this power, future administrations (which could be on the opposite end of the political spectrum) also have this power.

Seriously, I have no life.
I would think he’d by on high alert. I know I would be. Especially considering he reportedly had 33 stitches in his leg from being dragged by another vehicle earlier in 2025. It’s also easy to be an arm chair quarterback. FWIW, her vehicle did make contact.

What I really wanna know is. Why these protestors aren’t storming the capitol, and the mayors office demanding the heads of the corrupt ring “leaders” that defrauded Minnesota and the taxpayers. Maybe they’ll get theirs in due time, but this would be a convenient smoke show to distract everyone from all of that.
Is there real proof of fraud in MN? Claims are easy, facts are more difficult to come by. ;)

Because there are no real consequences of their actions and the pardon power is real. Since he pardons convicted leader of drug trafficking, it is clear what he is capable of.
