Parts Express recently held their annual Midwest Audiofest, and Audioholics was there to see what all the buzz was about. Midwest Audiofest is a festival for audio enthusiasts that features a DIY speaker competition, swap meet, and tent sale. As a fellow audio enthusiast, we thrived in the audio-obsessed atmosphere of the Midwest Audiofest, especially seeing some of the bold designs in the DIY Speaker competition.

Midwest Audiofest holds four competitions in different categories of speaker design:

  • Under $200 (where the total parts cost of the speaker must not exceed $200).
  • Over $200 (where the total parts cost of the speaker is over $200).
  • Dayton Audio (where only Dayton Audio drivers are used in the design).
  • and Open Unlimited (speaker designs that don’t quite fit into the other categories)

I've attended a handful of times and it's a great community and meet up event. They also have a car stereo competition that literally gets hair raising.
