I get the comparison to the airmotives, but the JBL is way more in your face IMHO.Those made me think of the airmotivs, But I preferred the JBL's aesthetic more.

Those do look really nice! With the grills on they remind me of the Infinity Kappa 8.Im replacing the grill pegs with some from Parts Express, but I have to go get a 7/16 drill bit first to finish the job. I put one on for show but it'll fall right back off for now. Anyway, enough talk, on with the porn:

The big drum possibly could be used to contain a subwoofer if properly braced from the outside. So poges, part of the title is “other curiosities”. So... here is one oddity that is not a speaker, but imo, is beautiful, and in the right room would be quite artistic.
I know you’ll like it...

That looks really cool! I wonder how they sound?? I wouldn't be surprised if those are tweaked to sound pretty nice.So poges, part of the title is “other curiosities”. So... here is one oddity that is not a speaker, but imo, is beautiful, and in the right room would be quite artistic.

Believe me, I’ve considered taking one of my old floor toms or kick drums and doing exactly that. My wife had seen my drums enough lol. Those barrels though....The big drum possibly could be used to contain a subwoofer if properly braced from the outside.![]()

I have been interested/curious about a single driver full range speaker for a while. I would like to get my hands on a set just to play around with. I see many designs that use Fostex drivers.Tang Band D-14s. 4" full range driver. Pretty sure this is a kit. I'm familiar with the company who make that driver and calls itself "full range", tho its kinda small. However, I did watch a build using a similar smaller driver from the same company and the bass it produced was pretty mind boggling.

I'd be curious to give those a listen. I'll be they sound a lot bigger than they are.
They're asking $160 for the pair I posted above. They might even be worth it but I think my wife will kill me if I spend that much for more speakers...I have been interested/curious about a single driver full range speaker for a while. Note that Tang Band doesn't seem to get much love. But, I know they do have some very good drivers. I'm pretty sure one of the Philharmonic designs used a Tang Band (I think it was the Slim Towers).
EDIT: Maybe something like this/these would be worth the time: @TLS Guy what are your thoughts?

IMO, they're not worth $1500. Those were in the lower quality range of the JBL line. Also having the drivers out of vertical alignment is not ideal.Rectilinear Lowboy 3 speakers! Never heard of these either. $300

And these JBL L112s... are they really worth $1500? They have that vintage (old) look to them but I know JBL can make a speaker too, so...
