Odd Speakers and Other Curiosities

Those JBL's look like something out of a transformer movie!

It took me a few minutes to find the tweeter on that center channel with all the crap going on there!

I had a friend whose parents had those Bose Speakers. They were pretty awesome in the early 90s. I remember they had a pretty impressive bass response for the small drivers.

Im replacing the grill pegs with some from Parts Express, but I have to go get a 7/16 drill bit first to finish the job. I put one on for show but it'll fall right back off for now. Anyway, enough talk, on with the porn:

So poges, part of the title is “other curiosities”. So... here is one oddity that is not a speaker, but imo, is beautiful, and in the right room would be quite artistic.
I know you’ll like it...

The big drum possibly could be used to contain a subwoofer if properly braced from the outside. :D

That looks really cool! I wonder how they sound?? I wouldn't be surprised if those are tweaked to sound pretty nice.

Believe me, I’ve considered taking one of my old floor toms or kick drums and doing exactly that. My wife had seen my drums enough lol. Those barrels though....

I have a feeling you are correct!!!

But there’s not nearly enough brass...!!!

Tang Band D-14s. 4" full range driver. Pretty sure this is a kit. I'm familiar with the company who make that driver and calls itself "full range", tho its kinda small. However, I did watch a build using a similar smaller driver from the same company and the bass it produced was pretty mind boggling.

I'd be curious to give those a listen. I'll be they sound a lot bigger than they are.

These are different, and expensive...

Artcoustic Df75-55 speakers and DFS75-55 subwoofer.

I have been interested/curious about a single driver full range speaker for a while. I would like to get my hands on a set just to play around with. I see many designs that use Fostex drivers.

Note that Tang Band doesn't seem to get much love. But, I know they do have some very good drivers. I'm pretty sure one of the Philharmonic designs used a Tang Band (I think it was the Slim Towers).

EDIT: Maybe something like this/these would be worth the time: @TLS Guy what are your thoughts?

I've heard a lot of good things about some of the TB drivers. I've looked at a few of their full rangers as possible Atmos modules, but am leaning toward coax options right now. *shrugs Still... some of the TBs have really good responses in their marketing releases.

They're asking $160 for the pair I posted above. They might even be worth it but I think my wife will kill me if I spend that much for more speakers...

Check these bad boys out. I'm just quoting from the description. Asking $3000 for the pair. I've never heard or seen these before.

Original Altec Lansing 604-8H Duplex Speakers, in original Altec 612C cabinets, with Great Plains Audio Dividing Networks.

These speakers are VERY RARE - They are the last 604's with Alnico Magnets, and the first with the Mantaray Horns and Tangerine Phase plug.

Rectilinear Lowboy 3 speakers! Never heard of these either. $300

And these JBL L112s... are they really worth $1500? They have that vintage (old) look to them but I know JBL can make a speaker too, so...
