Not trying to twist your arm in any way. Be mindful though, in shopping for a quality Subwoofer, cutting corners is not a path to success.
Consider the LFE channel in HT contains information from as low as 1Hz, up to 120Hz. Chasing 1 Hz is foolish, as is chasing 16Hz. :) (I chased 16Hz because I enjoy Pipe Organ. I do not regret it. But finding good Subs that are linear that low gets expensive.)
Looking at the options, and considering that this will be a cornerstone of a good HT experience, I only urge you to not fall into the trap which so many others do.
Skimping here will affect your experience for years to come. Finding the balance that's right for you and your situation, but that which also addresses the experience you will miss eventually if you underbuy now, is very key.

Mind, I'm not even trying to sell you on a pair of Subs! (I'm a firm believer here, but I already knew it was a non-starter for you. ;) )

Subs get tricky and many people hem and haw over which is the right one for them. I did this too. Most of the Subs we recommend are all known quantities and will satisfy for years to come. My only encouragement is to shop smart and work on finding the balance between performance and aesthetics. Involve your Spouse, too. :) I f she knows you are trying to balance her interests and that of a good experience, she may (hopefully) surprise you and support going for something that will keep you guys happy for years to come! :D
Yep. Agreed on all counts, so I’ll only add this. I know the SB2k is on the list, but Ime with one, it won’t be long until you outgrow it. The problem is that once yo get a taste of that yummy deep linear bass, you’ll want more. The axiom is a case of not knowing what you don’t know. To me quality bass is an investment, and will make the rest of the speakers sound even better.
The room is not large, so maybe the SB2k will work, and it certainly is better than the axiom. Problem is, it’s not very powerful below about 35hz. With room gain, it will play down to 20hz, but won’t shake the seats. For comparison, a Pb/pc2000 will have roughly four times the output at 20hz. It will also exhibit less distortion in that range as well. Imo, a worthy trade for size. I’m definitely a fan of HSU for value, but in a smaller room, I think the PC is hard to ignore.

No. I dont think you understand. I dont ask, Im told. :mad: This was my Christmas present. Plus, I want to be able to sit and enjoy movies WITH the wife. She doesnt want this big boat anchor sitting in the front of the room that shakes the house.

The room is actually a media room. Not dedicated home theater. In the basement, 15x14, used for watching sports, playing board games, kids hanging out, etc. Without even listening to them, she likes the PSB's. Its the sub that could be a problem. If it sits up front, I need a small footprint.

THIS!
Clean linear bass. Distortions are what you usually think of when you think of "hearing" a Subwoofer and things rattling like cabinet doors but not at ultra low frequencies.

Household relationships... that's on you. :)
As with all things, YMMV.
I just don't want to see you be underwhelmed by what you choose as you go forward on this next step. ;)

No I get it. Much appreciated. I look at it this way, as I have been told by people here and at the other Forum web site, ANY of today's subs that Im thinking about will be leaps and bounds ahead of my 20yr old Axiom sub.

Oh man...... I don’t think I’d ever see Nicki Minaj, and glory in the same sentence. Lmao.
I use her and Cardi B to illustrate to my daughter what NOT to be. EVER!!!!

The only way I can consider a pair of subs, based on price and size, would be a pair of Speedwoofers, or comparable. Read something on S&V a while back that pairing them up sounds really good.

Another option would be to hold back and save up to get the proper subwoofer like a PC 2000 or something if it can't be done right away instead of rushing into something that's really just a Band-Aid

Biggest advantage of two subs is smoothing room modes, helps particularly with multiple seats, I'd consider the extra output from a second sub as secondary. Nothing wrong with a pair of speedwoofers, good value.

I like that thought as well. As long as I can keep it at a relatively small footprint.

Again, not trying to push multiples on you! :) They have their benefits though.
No, as I said, this is just about helping you to find the balance I described above. Performance : aesthetics. For a music only system in a smaller room, I would not hesitate to recommend the Speedwoofer. For an HT in an open room, that drops toward the bottom of my list.
Again: your system, your ducats. :D ...YMMV :cool:

Well that’s something I can understand lol!!!
However, I don’t know how a song called WAP is even a thing. Let alone that I saw it at number one on world charts(per rick beats). Totally a piece of garbage, but if it gets the ladies moving...

The GOOD and the bad from Sunday night.

The good, of course, was a Browns victory!!!

The bad... First attempt at the Onkyo's auto calibrate with the newly attached PSB LCR? Not so good, IMO.

Impedance 4ohm
Sub = Yes
Crossover...

LR=200hz !?!?!?!
Center = 40hz
Surround= 200hz

This system needs help!

That was a good game! Good to see the Browns get it going...

Impedance is set by running the AccuEQ? I'd try resetting the avr and then re-run it just to see if that makes a difference. Are the L/R speakers in unusual positions? Got a pic?

Don't even bother using AccuEQ, unless you can limit its calibration below 500Hz. If you can't do that, don't use it.

My old speakers were set at 8ohm so I have to believe it was AccuEQ that did it.
