Leprkon: CNN has been raked repeatedly for made-up stories and would still be bowing to Dan Rather if he were still alive.
Don't you mean Peter Jennings?

"Apollo missions

Beginning in 1959, the Soviet Union and the United States sent a series of robot spacecraft to examine the moon in detail. Their ultimate goal was to land people safely on the moon. The United States finally reached that goal in 1969 with the landing of the Apollo 11 lunar module. The United States conducted six more Apollo missions, including five landings. The last of those was Apollo 17, in December 1972.

The Apollo missions revolutionized the understanding of the moon. Much of the knowledge gained about the moon also applies to Earth and the other inner planets -- Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Scientists learned, for example, that impact is a fundamental geological process operating on the planets and their satellites.

After the Apollo missions, the Soviets sent four Luna robot craft to the moon. The last, Luna 24, returned samples of lunar soil to Earth in August 1976. "

Mike C,

As Sheep stated about that quote,

I guess I'm missing the point if you saw that.

H may...actually I sure he would have something else to say...But, if you read the first part if my post I stated "This was written some time ago so some of the specifics are outdated. I am not excusing the recent events surrounding my country, but thought I would share this article. I feel the overall theme is relevant."

I agree with some of you about atacking some countries while leaving some alone but the sad fact is the U.S. will attack (disguised as "aid") any country to which it feels threatens our way of life. BUT...only the ones which the desired outcome will benefit us and our way of life. Its sad but true and it does include the oil reserves in the middle east. The way of life our government is trying to protect only exists in movies. There are no more friendly neighbors...just the "HAVES & HAVE NOTS...and the "GOT ITS & WANT ITS"
Politicians/leaders in ALL governments are corrupt to some degree but the point I was trying to make is our government is constantly attacked with negative press and rarely recognised for any good it has done. The press is the most corrupt entity out there. I only watch it for entertainments sake!

As far as attacking China??? all that would be left is cockroaches...not a good desired outcome for anyones way of life.

Macman is totally entitled to his opinion. No matter how contrary to mine it is in this case. I'll skip the personal attacks for the most part but I do think you're overopinionated Macman. I know the only news you guys get is CNN, and they're probably lefty pinko commies just like everyone else that doesn't believe in demolishing countries and then helping rebuild the rubble in their own image, but even they are starting to question what's happening overseas. Seriously, what money has America dumped into the middle east? The money to create friendly (and by friendly I mean enbedted) oil rich countries? Or is it the money it took to drop thousands of tons of munitions on a country that not only couldn't fight back but that had also stated they didn't want a fight. Aren't the same people you "liberated" and are best friends with the same people that are attacking US soldiers? Last time I checked a lot of the problems facing soldiers were Saudi fundamentalists attacking the troops in Iraq. Must be because they feel so greatful for the occupation of their country by foreign troops for the purpose of propping up a monarchy that feeds North America cheap oil. And just out of curiosity how is the U.S. "staying out of it" when you have so many troops in Saudi Arabia? Like somone pointed out to me you can be against the president, and even against the war, and that doesn't mean you are against the troops. No offence Macman but my family has most likely at least as much US military tradition as yours, and not many in it agree with the war currently under way. Still have 2 uncles and a deceased father that were US military, so don't think I don't have any empathy for the soldiers on the ground.

So if I don't agree with you I'm an idiot. If I have a different point of view my country sucks. Welcome to the 10% of people I was talking about. Your version of "we're just there to help" doesn't fly. Why isn't the US govt. helping any countries with limited natural resources but with brutal dictatorships that attack the innocent? You know why. There's nothing in it for the bottom line. How about you, and GW, and **** Chaney all hop on a mule, grab some 6 shooters and go country to country, solving all the worlds wrongs, and protecting us from terrible things like freedom of thought or religions other than Christianity, or gasp opinions different than yours. Start with the oil rich countries, work your way down to the diamond rich countries, then slog through the mineral rich countries, then the land rich countries, might as well get a little booty out of it. When you guys make time try to help out some of the other countries that desperatly need your help. Actually we're about to have a free and democratic election up here. Why not saddle up that little burrow and come clomping across the border and ensure that it works out ok? We might get confused without a retarded redneck, his buttboy and god's gift to speakers and mechanized infantry to tell us what to do. Why all kinds of chads could be dimpled and we could have to rig the election so our brother wins. I know, not original, but hey, if you've got to borrow might as well be from the innovator right?

By the way, I'm actually pretty conservative. I don't think that the US needs troops in Iraq and I'm not alone. I was wondering, do you even know what a socialist is, or was it all you could think of since I already used lefty, commie and pinko? Also name one thing I said that is socialist in nature. I dares ya. The fact that most of the world agrees with me might not make me the idiot. The men and women that signed up to serve their country are the people who really suffer for the mistruths George Bush Jr. sold to everyone. My last point is that because a country doesn't agree with the US does not make them a sheep. It would seem that the only way to convince you that other opinions are valid is if they are identical to your own. In other words if we had blindly followed the US into a conflict that not only did your president lie about to initiate but that our population didn't want to enter, and that most of the world (including your staunchest allies and Iraq's staunchest enemies) didn't believe was necessary then we wouldn't be sheep. Hmmm..., follow blindly, don't ask questions, don't look around, and don't have any opinions that differ from an ally, and then we won't be sheep. Well said. You're the one with the blinders on, doing what you're told, and following someone that you know is wrong because "well heck he's the pres". Sounds like you're the one that needs to open their eyes mutton chops.

Edit: I'd like to add that I didn't take you seriously about the invasion thing, and I don't think you're disgracing your country Macman, it takes more that one or two jibes over the internet to lower my opinion of a nation with a population around 300,000,000. I do find it annoying that you're so closed minded on the issue but I do think that reasonable people can agree to disagree. Also I know my spelling and grammer are terrible today (like usual) but I'm tired, cranky, and spell check isn't working.
I imagine I could come across a bit less harsh, but truth be told I'm not going to try to convince you of anything, I see your type every day. You listen to everything the media tells you and you run with it. I prefer to look at facts about subjects, one of which Annakui pointed out earlier, and there are many more facts that people don’t hear in the mainstream media. The tripe the media sells, well it is just that. So you can believe that the Iraq people don't want us there, but I know different. I have been to the region, I have lived among them, and I know what they think of us (the U.S.). This perception that we are stomping over countries, and are unwanted there, is not the position of the majority of the world. Sorry we are such tyrants in your opinion.

And, yes, I know what a socialist is. The democrats have been trying to turn us into a socialist nation for years. With social programs for the poor and with our healthcare, trying to make it, like yours. No thanks.

Man, I think we might have to make a new site and call it Politicaholics...
There could be posts like: "Help I'm a total newbie and need help picking a leader." "What are the correct settings on a lie detector when a politicians mouth is moving?" or I'm Familiar with all the Big Name Parties like Democrat and Republican, but are there factors that should sway me to the lesser known parties?

Macman, I'm glad you think you see my type every day, considering the fact that you've never seen me. That's a great way to express it. Brainwashed by the media. Don't ask any questions to find out where I generate my ideas and opinions, just jam your speculations into some kind of all emcompassing groundless accusation and fire away. Better do it quick, I might be getting ready to watch Crossfire! Way to have a closed mind. I know my opinion doesn't mean anything to you, but at least it's flexible enough to allow in new information that may run contrary to what I believe. I started out angry that Canada hadn't joined forces to invade Iraq, now I see that someone that made the decisions knew more than me. I guess if there isn't any evidence then leave it to the British and American politicians to invent it. As for you, nothing like an entity that takes young men, forces them to conform to a preset mold, tells them what and when to eat, when to shower, and when to shi...(well you know how that one ends) to create well balanced free thinkers I always say. Are you that right wing that you honestly believe anyone who questions US military action is either stupid or brainwashed? Isn't it possible that people who live in foreign countries get an outside view that exposes them to a different side of some things that might not be available to you? Isn't it just possible that your country made a wrong move and won't back out? Geez, I'm shocked the Iraqi locals on your military compound, most likely there for either training or medical relief, were glad to see you. (see anyone can just change a story to suit their own leanings) So I'm just curious, do you think this is the next Vietnam, or did the US just take over an un-winnable war for the USSR? I ask because you're fighting the same loosing war they did. Moving targets with no fixed address, in case you don't remember it didn't work out too well for them. The best case scenario is a thank you and a handshake and then a kick in the butt on the way out once billions are spent rebuilding the country . Worst case is a joining with Iran to create a new fundamentalist regime that can really screw with the world. Also please note that I never called anyone a tyrant. I do think your leader made a bad choice intentionally and that yours won't be the only country that pays for it. I still think that the US military is the finest fighting force in the world as a whole. I still think that the US is a great country and the best nighbour anyone can have. I also think that the US is wrong in this case.

I don't think so RJ, international support isn't behind America on this one. And it is rare that I would ever assume to speak for others, but it's not hard to find out what countries are backing this particular campaign and what countries aren't. Look at the allies that aren't involved in this war as compared to the original Gulf War. I do think that France especially can be called out for economic reasons, but most other countries aren't there for reasons besides the loss of missle sales. I've got to hit the hay tonight, actually I'm going out, but not the time to split hairs. Later.

ALL countries weigh their own economies and securities before acting internationally to their own benefit. It was true of France and Germany staying out of the "Coalition". It was true of Poland and Japan getting into the "Coalition". Canada, nor any country, is free from political tyranny and self-aggrandizing power mongers. (Look at those gents you're currently throwing out of office.) It is...I emphasize this word with caution...MERELY because the United States is THE world power, that our mongers and mongering is so highly visible. People everywhere are the same. Those that prefer to have their hands in your pocket are also the same, worldwide.

That is very true RJ. No country is exempt from its share of problems, and the US is a big and easy target to take verbal potshots at because of its wealth, influence, and power. Like I said no country could ask for a better neighbour than the one we have down South (and I don't mean Mexico, although it was fun too). I'm not going to change my opinion on the correctness of some of the actions taken by the USA, but when push comes to shove there aren't many countries friendlier or closer than our two. You don't always have to agree with what a friend does, but you should be there for them when they need you. That doesn't mean you should let yourself be talked into something you don't want to do, just that you should be ready to help.

Your point is not clear because "yellow cake" is not enriched uranium. You need to study your nuclear chemistry a little more:

"At the refinery, the yellow cake is dissolved in nitric acid. The resulting solution of uranium nitrate, UO2(NO3)2· 6H2O, is fed into a continuous solvent extraction process. The uranium is extracted into an organic phase (kerosene) with tributyl phosphate, and the impurities remain again in the aqueous phase. After this purification, the uranium is washed out of the kerosene with dilute nitric acid and concentrated by evaporation to pure UO2(NO3)26H2O. Heating yields pure UO3. The initial separation and refining processes generate large volumes of acid and organic waste.

It is necessary to enrich the U-235 isotope concentration from its natural composition of 0.7% for use in either reactors or bombs."

Once the uranium is properly "enriched", it can do plenty of damage if you know what you're doing.

RJ I also agree with what you say.

My biggest question to everyone on here in favor of this war is why did we go after Saddam and not Bin Ladin?? Why did we ignore who was responsable for the 911 attack? Why do you think its ok that we did not put every effort into getting him and his crew? Why has there been no new terror alerts now that the last election is over? Also calling anyone a "pinko" or a socialist is really lame and shows all you do is tow the line.

To quote our fearless leader:

"There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once -- shame on -- shame on you. You fool me, you can't get fooled again."
-- Dubya attempting to co-opt Texas and Tennessee into his verbal wreckage. The saying he was trying to dredge up was "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Even better, Dubya was speaking at a literature magnet school. I'm sure it was a learning experience for the kids. East Literature Magnet School, Nashville, Tennessee, Sep. 17, 2002
