I don't know sheep, got any suggestions? I picked up a new center channel. Paradigm CC470. I was also thinking about building a small stage and I think I am going to paint the ceiling dark. I need a couple of more movie posters too.

Piece of advice:

I painted my ceiling flat black. First, it was a pain in the arse. Second, it made the room soooooo dark that even two 500w halagon flood lights couldn't get it bright enough to work in. Third, every time you even barely touch it the surface has the appearance of being scuffed.

I primed and put 5 coats of paint on and it STILL isn't enough! My walls have a dark blue paint on the bottom half, a dark grey stripe down the middle and light grey across the top. I made the mistake of painting the black first (even the screen wall). The room got so dark I couldn't see what I was doing. It took forever just to paint the stripe. I had planned on painting a smaller stripe down the center of the large one but gave up because it was such a pain.

If you want to make your room darker, just upholster your ceiling accoustic panel with black material. It would be really easy. Just require a staple gun. If you really want it to stand out, add fiber optic stars or rope light along the top inner edge to give it a glow on the ceiling.

I keep adding light to my room and it's still not enough. I have halogen track lights, halogen wall sconces, halogen uplights behind the back row of seating, halogen floods in the hall, rope light on the stages and shelf lights on the small shelves. If I had it to do over again, I'd add small recessed lighting all over the room along the walls. I don't think I'd bother with the wall sconces. I plan on changing out my sconces with something frosted white and modern/industrial looking.

Lessons learned for my next house. :(

Lighted movie poster frames also add a lot of light.

Now ML never has to turn on the heat in his HT with all his halogen bulbs going!
Of course he does live in Florida too....

You could build a riser/bass trap and have theater seating...

YOU AIN'T KIDDING!

Between the projector, the amps and the lights the room gets damn hot. I have two large AC vents and a return in the room to make it comfortable. I also have ventilation for the component closet. That's why I always remind people not to forget air conditioning. The lights are usually off so they aren't that big of a heat BTU contribution but the projector and the components (and subs) are HUGE heat producers. The projector really pumps out heat after a few hours running.

Same here, this house does not have central air so this room is going to be hot. I will have to get one of those stand up air untits or two.

Hey guys, I got a little ambitious over my break between summer and fall classes and did a little painting of the front of the room. What do you think? I am still debating on the rest of the ceiling; black, brown or leave it white?

Looks good, I'd keep the ceiling white or paint in brown, black might make it a little too dark....just as Majorloser.
