I don't know sheep, got any suggestions? I picked up a new center channel. Paradigm CC470. I was also thinking about building a small stage and I think I am going to paint the ceiling dark. I need a couple of more movie posters too.
Piece of advice:
I painted my ceiling flat black. First, it was a pain in the arse. Second, it made the room
soooooo dark that even two 500w halagon flood lights couldn't get it bright enough to work in. Third, every time you even barely touch it the surface has the appearance of being scuffed.
I primed and put 5 coats of paint on and it
STILL isn't enough! My walls have a dark blue paint on the bottom half, a dark grey stripe down the middle and light grey across the top. I made the mistake of painting the black first (even the screen wall). The room got so dark I couldn't see what I was doing. It took forever just to paint the stripe. I had planned on painting a smaller stripe down the center of the large one but gave up because it was such a pain.
If you want to make your room darker, just upholster your ceiling accoustic panel with black material. It would be really easy. Just require a staple gun. If you really want it to stand out, add fiber optic stars or rope light along the top inner edge to give it a glow on the ceiling.
I keep adding light to my room and it's still not enough. I have halogen track lights, halogen wall sconces, halogen uplights behind the back row of seating, halogen floods in the hall, rope light on the stages and shelf lights on the small shelves. If I had it to do over again, I'd add small recessed lighting all over the room along the walls. I don't think I'd bother with the wall sconces. I plan on changing out my sconces with something frosted white and modern/industrial looking.
Lessons learned for my next house.
Lighted movie poster frames also add a lot of light.
