Back in for a quick update
Well, after a few months of lurking I'm back. Nothing really new to add outside reporting that me and the whole family have really been enjoying the room, and it is still gettting as much use as when I started... with the new TV seasons getting rolling in a few months it will be even more so!
Its been a busy spring/summer at work... some big / high visibility projects at work nearing launch, so not a lot of time for forum browsing!
Some AV highlights from the last few months:
- rediscovering my DVD collection
- getting to show off the room quote a bit... outside of the obvious, the rope backlighting and floor-shaking sub get the most comments
- going to movies with friends and family and having them comment "I can't wait till that comes out on DVD and we can watch it in your room!"
- a completely unexpected bass scene in "the Last Mimsy" causing my wife to exclaim happily "the floor just rippled! I've never felt bass like that before!"
As mentioned last time I'm planning on building some cabinets in the room, and eventually will look into building some sound treatments as well. Progress on the woodwooding equipment and skills is after a long pause starting to come along nicely again. I've managed to pick up a band saw, nice router and bit set, and built a few fixtures to help my accuracy. In the next week or so I'm tackling a desk/cabinet/cubby set for my daughter and should emerge from that with some new key techniques I plan to eventually use on the cabinetry.
Two days ago I realized I could build a down and dirty equipment rack with some of the scrap plywood I had laying around. Its very simple, and the plywood is of the WORST quality (I could rant), but it gets the job done. My gear is finally off the carpet and breathing a bit better. I also set up my old-school XBOX and Playstation, and the wife and I kicked it with some old games last night. I hereby challenge any passers-by to a few laps in Project Gotham Racing 2 or a few rounds of Street Fighter Alpha.
I'll take some pics of the get-er-done rack in the next few days and post it.
Its good to be back on the forum!
