angstadt530,

Thanks for the kind comments. My family is loving the sectional, and I think that file cabinet qualifies as a family heirloom!

I keep on thinking I'll knock together a really down and dirty audio rack or pick one up on the cheap, but then I get all into designing the cabinets again. I really just need to finalize the design and get to makin the sawdust... but I spend most of my free time up in the room!

As things warm up here (we actually had a winter here in Texas for a change), I'll put some more time in down in my garage shop. I need to make some fixtures for the table saw, and I'm also eyeballing putting together a combo tablesaw/router table. The cabinets would be next on the list.

I remember when this thread started.

Great to see the finished product after all these months of hard work. Start saving your money. I see black out curtains in your future!

Wonderful job and congratulations!!!

P.S. Great decision to upgrade to a larger subwoofer too! And to think, you actually came in $200 under budget with better equipment!!!

I am definately coming to your house next time I am in the Dallas\Ft. Worth area.

You called it, the wife is responsibile for the curtain and room accents - she's already brought home "swatches".

Wonderful job and congratulations!!!
Thanks a lot, it means a lot to get comments like this from folks who inspired my efforts in the first place! Your comments and guidance along the way have been very helpful.

Absolutely! Just let me know.

Back in for a quick update

Well, after a few months of lurking I'm back. Nothing really new to add outside reporting that me and the whole family have really been enjoying the room, and it is still gettting as much use as when I started... with the new TV seasons getting rolling in a few months it will be even more so!

Its been a busy spring/summer at work... some big / high visibility projects at work nearing launch, so not a lot of time for forum browsing!

Some AV highlights from the last few months:
- rediscovering my DVD collection
- getting to show off the room quote a bit... outside of the obvious, the rope backlighting and floor-shaking sub get the most comments
- going to movies with friends and family and having them comment "I can't wait till that comes out on DVD and we can watch it in your room!"
- a completely unexpected bass scene in "the Last Mimsy" causing my wife to exclaim happily "the floor just rippled! I've never felt bass like that before!"

As mentioned last time I'm planning on building some cabinets in the room, and eventually will look into building some sound treatments as well. Progress on the woodwooding equipment and skills is after a long pause starting to come along nicely again. I've managed to pick up a band saw, nice router and bit set, and built a few fixtures to help my accuracy. In the next week or so I'm tackling a desk/cabinet/cubby set for my daughter and should emerge from that with some new key techniques I plan to eventually use on the cabinetry.

Two days ago I realized I could build a down and dirty equipment rack with some of the scrap plywood I had laying around. Its very simple, and the plywood is of the WORST quality (I could rant), but it gets the job done. My gear is finally off the carpet and breathing a bit better. I also set up my old-school XBOX and Playstation, and the wife and I kicked it with some old games last night. I hereby challenge any passers-by to a few laps in Project Gotham Racing 2 or a few rounds of Street Fighter Alpha.

I'll take some pics of the get-er-done rack in the next few days and post it.

Its good to be back on the forum!

Well, I will be in the Dallas\Ft. Worth area the weekend of the 7th. Saturday is spoken for but Sunday is open. Are you going to be available? Let me know or PM me and we will make final arrangements.
(I told you I would come see you when I was up your way!)

Also take a peek at my updates. I made a folding painting to cover my projection screen. Tell me what you think!

"His and Her Room!"

P.S. Boy those room wall colors look familiar
