I'm a Mustang guy, so I like going to car shows and watching some of the car shows on TV, like Horsepower TV and such. Well last weekend, I happened to see a couple of guys tricking out a new Mustang. So of course, I decided to watch.

The name of the show was Musclecar. The 2 guys on that show are complete morons!!! One is white and I think the other is Mexican. They try to act all "ghette" and crack tons of stupid jokes. The show is well nigh unwatchable. Get these idiots off of television!!!!!!!!

Anybody else ever watch these dorks????

I DVR episodes of "Rides" whenever I see an episode I haven't seen in DiscoveryHD.

I've never seen the show you're talking about.

I find many of the new shade tree style shows to be rather retarded. Horsepower TV is at least interesting, but the crop of new shows are mostly useless.

Hey Mr. D,

You mean Lou Santiago and the other guy was Jared Zimmerman. Lou is one of the most knowledgeable fabricators around he specializes in spec racers and is considered a top rollcage and racing suspension fabricator, Jared was working in Rad Rides by Trey (or Troy) who specialize in super big bucks custom rods, Jared is also considered one of the top metal guys in Chicago, I don't know whats happened to him after he left the show. Jokes aside, these guys, believe it or not, are at the top of the muscle car food chain.

Regards,

S.

Never seen it, but all American made car shows blow. You need to see some Japanese shows where they literally take factory cars and beat the heck out of them on a race track against cars in their performance range.

If only American cars could turn, they could do the same thing.

I have...it didn't handle that well especially when you look at the price tag. It was okay for an American car, but I completely agree with Sheep. American cars are mostly for straight lines.

ohhhh i have!!! and man did that SOB get up and go from 0 to 100. in a straight line. whoop ti do.

I <3 my S2000 (RIP) and looooooove my Subi. I don't care that they are both "slow" cars. Turning adds SOOOOOOOO much more. ANY one can hit the gas pedel and hold on when a light turns green for a whooping 12-15 seconds. (talking stock production cars).

The best was in high school with all the guys in their ~195 fly? HP 5.0L mustangs would talk crap. ohhhh and the old guys with their 455ci engines with 40 series flow masters on them swearing up and down they are the fastest cars ever... then they run a 14 or 15 at the track, must be carb tuning... right? Meanwhile the japs have tiny 4 and 6 cyl turbo cars putting out more power (and a good amount of TQ on the turbo cars) stock then most of those older V8 engines ever did stock in factory form. NOTE: STOCK.

Oh well. sorry to start the flame war. I grew up Pontiac muscle then moved to the jap stuff when i realized there's more to cars (not to mention the better quality) then having a lead foot.

That all being said and back on topic. I find most all of the car shows to be at least a little entertianing. The worst on TV is BY far "Pimp my ride" chrome 18" spinners and a fish tank in a caviler... right...

No flame wars. I appreciate those "jap cars" as much as you guys...when I want to sew my Grandma's curtains. :p

I feel the need...the need for speed!

I'd love to start talking smack about rice burners and give a big thumbs up to American cars...but I have a Honda. I've had Hondas for 14 years now. Great cars.

That said, I have always been envious of the torque that my buddy had in his Mustang. Good lord, that thing would throw me back in the seat. That thing just had power. To me, that's driving excitement. Plus, when a guy around here passes me in his new Mustang, the roar of that thing is just invigorating. Straight line or not...kick ***.

One problem with Jap cars is their rep more than anything. They are cheaper so its easier to pick one up slap an airplane wing on the back then glue a coffee can to the muffler and it looks "cool." Sit in a well done Jap car like a properly moded Civic or just get in a Japanese muscle car like a RX-7 or Supra...it will change your perspective.

No, and I don't want to. At a local drag strip there was a turbo'd viper (first generation) and he was beaten by a guy from Vancouver Civics who runs a stock bottom 1.8liter with a turbo in a 4 door.

Sheep, I have the utmost respect for you, your opinions and your country. But at the Milwaukee Mile, the Indy 500, or any topfuel meet, we'll squash those civics for the seamstress machines that they are. :p

You guys should seriously watch the "Type R Legend" video. You can find it on google videos. Its about an hour and 20 mintues and it talks about all the Honda Type R cars in GREAT detail. This video will show you why these cars are so popular. They were never made for straight lines, it's just hilarious when they actually destroy domestics cars when they win. Another fella on VCC has a civic just like mine, with a type R swap and nos. Without Nos, he ran 12.6 in the quarter mile. With, 11.94. No turbo.

Power to weight ratio is a wonderful thing no matter what you drive.

Agreed. When i'd give my buddies a ride in my S2000 (mostly all mustang and muscle car guys) and i'd do a downshift that kept me above 6,000RPMs They would litterally Sh*t bricks from about 40mph to 120ish MPH. It would usually go something like this:

Them:
Ohhhh vtec ohhh soooo fast HAHAHAh vtec HAHAH.
Me:
2nd gear down shift. 6000-9000rpms. with the back of the car sliding around.
Them: (thinking)
WTF, NO OH SH*TTERS!!! with a paniced looked on their faces.

Me:
1st gear launch at 7,000rpms. Back of the car going nuts side to side, engine screaming hard 2nd gear shift.
Them:
:D

After the ride to everyone they know in sight
YOU GUYS HAVE GOT! TO RIDE IN THIS THING. its INSAINE! VTEC is REAL!!

and I could keep the car under 6,000rpms and get 20mpg+ all day everyday. Handle like the car was on rails, and the fit and finish... WOW. the looks, everything. Thank the Lord that my wife wants me to buy another one if i sell my jeep.

One problem with Jap cars is their rep more than anything.
Yup. Americans need to realize the 80's were a couple of decades ago. You can take a POS early 90s 240sx or honda anything and build you a 20+ MPG car that will beat just about any stock mustang/cobra/chevy... and will out handle it for less than $5,000. heheh. ohhh let the good times roll.

American muscle. Can't beat it. Period.

Matt hit the nail on the head. Power to weight ratio. Take those rice burning engines and put them in a 4000 lb led sled and see what they do. American V-8s don't need NOS or turbos to hit 500hp, not even the small blocks. Comparing original '60s model muscle cars to todays rice rockets is crazy. Just like comparing them to today's American muscle. Today's muscle cars put out WAY more hp per cube than cars of the '60s. With head technology, etc, you can get insane hp/cube out of an engine.

1980's cars???? Are you nuts?:rolleyes: That was the WORST era for muscle cars. An exception would be the Buick Turbo cars. They ruled during that era and can flat fly today with just a few mods.

As far as mileage, my '70 Monte knocks down 20mpg all day any day on the highway. It has over 400 hp, weighs 3980 lbs, handles easily better than any full size modern car, imports included, and has killer classic looks. Not to mention the value of it is going up every year. How about your ricers:rolleyes:

As for Jap shows showing equal cars bashing each other up on the track, we have NASCAR or demolition derby:). I care about my car too much to swap paint with somebody else. Paint jobs like mine cost too much;). I do take it to the local drag strip on occasion, however.

As for the Vipers, yeah, I've ridden in one. Fast cars, but can't hold a candle in the wind to a Z06 'Vette, especially with regards to handling or ride. Can exotic imports beat the Corvette? Yeah, but at what price? You won't find a better overall car for the money, I don't believe.

One last vent; I HATE Flowmasters. I'm a Borla man, myself. Only thing I even half way like FM on is Mustangs, and then they have to be the three chamber models. Two's are way too loud for me.:)

FWIW, I work like two miles from the BMW Performance test track in SC. I told one of the guys there that I would put my Monte up against his 7 series cars. He looked at me like I was crazy. I told him to throw a set of the same tires on there and threw him the keys. Told him he could use his driver and I would sign a release from any damage. He asked me what made me think it would stack up. I told him the mods I had done to the suspension...he said "No, thanks". Darn. I sure would like to know how it would have faired!
