You don't have to be poor to buy your vehicles used.

Just smart.
You got that right,i could go out & order a new Dodge Viper if i felt like paying a huge monthly nut but i wont, buying used is the only way to go with cars, motorcycles & hifi gear,in fact any luxury item.

Not to mention most out there worth having isn't made anymore. Muscle cars, and rare Japanese cars.

Mustangs

We currently own 3 mustangs:

A 2000 V6 which I selling to fund the restoration project.

A 1996 Cobra in mint condition w/ only 40k miles

And a 1965 coupe that has been in the family and we will upgrade and restore.

My parents just ordered a new BMW 335i. Should be a sweet ride, but it cost $50k and still has less power than our Cobra and in 4 or 5 years will be worth less than the restored 65.

2. So say you have a classic car sitting in your garage, you're just going to buy a new one every 4 years? Yeah, right.

SheepStar
Classic cars are the biggest waste of time & money since they invented heroin. I used to think otherwise, then I bought one.....wasted a shitload of money..... won't touch an old car now with a 10' pole.

My '02 Camaro SS turned 13.21 at around 104, bone stock down to the factory air filter and tires.

My '01 SVT Cobra ran 13.67 at around 104, again bone stock but it was a piece of junk and had to go bye-bye to the Chev dealer with only 5,000 kms on it.

One of my other favorites was a '94 Lincoln Mark VIII that ran 14.9 around 94 mph with just a chip, MAF and cold air kit, otherwise stock with peg leg 3.08 gears.
Good times. What didn't you like about the SVT cobra?

Anyone with they're own project cars can post in the car projects thread. Pictures are always welcome. I'm pretty sure I put up pictures of my high school drag car in there. If not, I'll upload them.

I agree with you R&R but I bet if you asked a classic car freak what they thought about spending $15k to watch a fancy TV they would say it was the biggest waste of money since..............:)

Huh??? My last car, a 1990 Civic was never kept in a garage and it doesn't have one speck of rust on it. 17 years and 356,000 miles and it still runs perfect. New car every 4 years? I think not.

That's a pretty generalized statement. Just bc you lost money on one doesn't make them all a waste of time and money. I know plenty of folks that have made tons of money and had a lot of fun in the business or hobby. That's like saying real estate, coins, AV or anything else is a waste. Classic cars are like anything else; you have to do your research before you buy or you can get burnt. A friend of mine bought a Boss Mustang, spent a little money on it to make it a 100 point car, kept it two years and can make about $90k on it today.
A friend of mine bought a building in downtown Roanoke, Va with the intent of making a bundle. He got it on the cheap (so he thought). He spent a ton of money and then a ton more after the codes folks got ahold of him:(. He thought since they were reviving downtown and it was the hot spot to be, he could unload it fast. Not. He wound up losing money when he finally sold it. So from his perspective, real estate sucks.
Sorry you had a bad experience:)

Bought new. Babied it, was supposed to be my lifelong keeper. Had the engine replaced at ~3500kms. Needed the tranny replaced at 4500kms. Got the runaround from the dealer, no help from Ford. Traded it after five months with 5000kms to the Chevy dealer for the '02 SS. I made 6 drag strip passes on the SVT just to see what it would do vs the SS with 80+ passes in 18 months without an issue, just begged for more.

I'm waiting patiently for the new Camaro, or maybe a Z06 in '09.

Rumor is the Corvette SS will be released in '09 (@650 HP) :D
That is sure to be worth more than my house.

I'm thinking of another Camaro SS or a pre-loved Z06. In Canada, a new Z06 is knocking on $100k, over that after tax.

I never like the vette, reminds me of a camaro that made it out the trailor park. I can just imagine a gun rack in the back window for some reason.... I think they are both well designed, I just get that stigma... Pluss the one time I test drove the vette, at first it was really impressive actual lots of metal going really fast pulled hard from the line, but then it just lost it's apeal quickly and I didn't think it was all that well apointed on the inside.....

No enough performance to make it hold my interest for too long especialy in short bursts and tight turns(this was on a trackday with a friends dad not me driving) and when you get past that all be it, impressive performance, you are stuck with an interior so lack luster in flare it reminds me of a comercial truck.

car's that have really impressed me are the mk3 jetta's though had tons of issues, were so well designed to drive and use and just about as customizable as your civic with all the parts out there now. A decently apointed s4(not the current form but prior) for the money was where it's at considering the handeling.. you just can't beleive iut untill you're in the snow.

Th rx-7 is also a heavy hitter in form and function with it's inSANE handeling.

EDIT
To be fair I have driven all these cars/rode in them on track days with mostly stock set upts. The rx-7 had some new seats and engine mods.

In dream land I would take a Nissan Skyline over just about anything. Luxury and performance is my feeling.

Top Gears test of the Zed-aught-six.

Which along with the Corvette-based Cadillac XLR are about the only American cars I lust after.

XLR is a sexy looking car I like the small sporty cadilac in the "v" version. that's a winner, but not worth the cish cash IMHO considering how much you can get out of the new RL. The RL-S is my new little wet dream.

You are lucky my man. I have no idea about handeling or anything else other than it's stats and how it looks inside and out.

The style is what I love about it. The engine is a brick house too.

What was it that's Broken about the traction isn't it the 75/25 style with more to the rear?

I dont' know if that's the correct numbers but it's pretty wild. One of the most unique cars i drove was a J spec 300 GT twin turbo and that i beleive had the "all wheele stearing" which made for quite a wild drive to be sure!
My best friends uncle had it and we used it to go to prom.. man we felt like kings untill I ended up in what they conside the back seat.... all 6'2 270 pounds of me in a wool suit in 90 degree weather on that ity bity bench

OOOOh for sheezey my neezey!

I'm not down on the car lingo lol.

"It's driftin' son!"

"you never had me.. you never had yo caahh"

I would be stuck with perma-grin myself. I have to give you not only props, but MAD props. I would sell my mother for organ donations to have that car.....
:sigh:

I'm going to get me one of those Atom's I think. I will save my pennies and move to a state where I can drive it all year round. I don't know if it could replace my bike.... but it might give it a run for it's money!
