I hated ATT. They wasted so much of my time during calls to tech support and CS and I'll never get it back but disconnecting the call on my own (they did that too often) wouldn't have ended with any kind of decent resolution. Inept is the best word for the way they handled my calls, for myself and my customers who were unfortunate enough to be their customers. We all left and went to Spectrum- while it hasn't always been painless, it has been an improvement.
So far, since I cut the cord , its been better at Spectrum.

The sad part is that guys like Irv really think they have it all figured out.. What he doesn't realize is that if he got dumped cross town in a big city and didn't have a phone he couldn't get home without $100 for cab fare...me , i could visit the next city over on $5 because assholes like him vote into office guys that mke that skill necessary
Is this your brain on drugs?

Sounds like you're in the same boat.. Guys like irv , who work off a trust fund and have always had unearned income to live off of just never get that sometimes life gets in the way of being what he wants us to be...there is a universal right wing thought that " if you can work" you have no other choice.. Which is of course a false narrative..
Yeah, the trust fund is nice, but Dad limited the withdrawals to $500K/year, which was nice years ago, but it's now kind of limiting.

I qualify for disability , I'm sure you do as well.. The point is : we qualify as disabled.. Why does that *have* to come with a life sentence to be at SUB POVERTY income levels.. I guess that old " there's so much welfare fraud" at the recipient level that it warrants taking money from everyone in the system , which is what happens.. Ibcan see tightening up qualifications, which would leave me in place... Funny story.. When i applied for disability at age 44 after working 25 years in blue collar jobs with no retirement programs i had to go to the social security doctor to be examined.. The doctor actually told me that i qualified the minute she saw me...i think the phrase she used was " a picture is worth a thousand words "
On a more serious note, I think the reason this problem hasn't been adequately addressed is the sheer magnitude of the situation. According to the feds, 61 million people, 26% percent of all adults, are deemed disabled in one way or another. Mostly ambulatory problems. The many degrees of disablement and the argument over who is and isn't going to be eligible for special benefits, probably means that most politicians are going to see this the same way they see solving the Social Security funding crisis, as a political "third rail".

Some folks , like our boy irv, are actually mad at us takers.. It's going to be tough for him to afford that 2 nd vacation house .. It's my fault you see.. Us poor folks have all his money...
Okay, back to our regularly scheduled idiotic argument. Look, my main concern is that if taxes go up too much we're going to have to rent out parts of the family island. And Queen Elizabeth wants to include trusts in her proposed wealth tax, which will reduce their value. This is fucked up. How are we supposed to get to the island without the family plane, which the trusts will no longer cover? I paid my fair share in 2010. That should be enough.

How is Bezos making $3000/sec? I figure in the past few months he has lost tens of billions of dollars.

More silliness. Tell us the numbers.

I may only have a double digit IQ, but even I know your statement, true or not, has nothing to do with the question I asked.

Don’t focus on the product......
I was a manager for nearly 40 years in various companies in various industries, and there is a remarkable difference in performance and results from different employees. In some fields, like computer software, the difference between average and the best can be well over 10x. Compensating the best at the same rate as the average performer is a disservice to the best ones.

It's more than a disservice. They lose their ambition and start looking elsewhere. Equal opportunity and equal outcome are two different things.

Sometimes....did you manage people that were making $7.00 an hour or $70,000 a year. Exactly what quote of mine are you responding to? It’s been a long day and I am out of cannabis.....

So was your company one of those that will keep that 10x performer in the same roll due to their strong output in any way possible, often even promoting people who’s performance was not as good to avoid possibly losing that person’s strong output if they were promoted to another job? That happens where I am all the time.

Really?

You could use your search engine and find this stuff on your own, it would save me keystrokes!

The fact that you were a manager for 40 years makes you an expert on???

I spent a great deal of my career cleaning up fecal matter that “managers” created. Sometimes we succeeded, sometimes large settlements were handed out.

Like most managers, you think you are the smartest person in the room.....if you were in a room alone you wouldn’t be the smartest person in the room.....

I wake up and now I have two idiotic posts to respond to. You first.

This $3000/sec figure is based on Bezos unrealized gains on Amazon stock. I did wonder where you got it, so I did a search, and the source was posted in 2018. In the meantime, just so you know what the facts are, the all-time high for Amazon stock was $3552/share, which was achieved about six months ago, and as of yesterday Amazon stock closed at $2977/share. Bezos owned more shares in 2018 than he does now, but using the lower number of 53 million shares he owns now, the simple math says he has lost (3552-2977) * 53,000,000 = $30.475 billion.

Next time you want to get all snarky with me, know what you're talking about. Right now you look like a damned fool.

I'm sorry you woke up from your pot high in a bad mood, but denying that there is a measurable performance difference qualitatively and quantitatively between humans performing the same task is silly.
