Massacre at Virginia Tech

Agreed! However, how many people would of died if his choice of weapons was a knife? We to had our share of school killings in Canada and guns inflect the MOST damage.
Really, what if he had chosen a bomb, or (GASP!) a car?

Lets put this into perspective:

In the last decade, there were almost 180,000 (that's 180 thousand) people
killed in car wrecks where alcohol abuse was a key factor. In the same
ten-year period, there were 110 students (including those at VA Tech)
murdered on campus by psychopaths.

Guns are the choice weapon for deranged people. Saying guns have no fault in these deaths is a stretch. Here's a link to a shooting here in Canada and our laws in obtaining firearms is a little more difficult.
Really?

What weapon did Dahlmer use? How about Ted Bundy? Tim McVeigh? How many people were killed by drunk drivers that day?

Robbie it's possible that a future government might turn on us, if the constitution is suspended our rights and freedoms are in jeopardy. It happens in every part of the world, there's no 100% guarantee that it won't happen here.
Which is exactly why we have the 2nd Amendment. To ensure the power of governance remains with the people.

Did anyone read the latest news today? The problem wasn't the ease and availability of guns. He could have purchased weapons in any state, any time in the past. He had a clean record. It's a weak argument.

The problem was that he was picked on as a child, in grade school, middle school, and high school. He was ridiculed and made fun of. He was told to "go back to China." His parents brought him here from Korea for a better life, while both worked at a laundry mat. Imagine how hard it would be for us to move to Korea, learn a different language, and be made fun of every day of our lives with no alternative.

Teasing and bullying in no way make it right to open fire and kill others, but one can see the effects teasing and bullying play on children later in life. I'm sure everyone here was teased or bullied in the past. This kid must have been the laughing stock of the school. His boiling point exploded after dozens of years of pent up anger. It seems no one cared enough to open up to him at a young age. It could have been the busy DC school system, or his busy parents. Either way, he was left to fuel his own fire until it was too late.
My two boys are vietnamese, never once have they ever told me about being teased because of their race. Not here in NH or in FL. I have a feeling he was teased because of his personality not his race. I think the dude was a weird creep is what I think, and I don't believe being teased was the cause of his ugly acts.

Can I ask a dumb question? Does that mean that if, for some reason, the government of the US "goes bad", the people can turn on their institutions (Army, Police, FBI, CIA, etc.)? I mean, how would that work, in practice?

Is governance really retained by the people? As I understand it, the US is pretty evenly split between Republicans and Democrats.

When originally written the government by and large was just a military force. there was no FBI, no post office, no federal agents or DMV desk clerks.

So today the government wouldn't likely "go bad" all at the same time. While I'm sure the DMV would thrive in the chaos of war, the post office will probably just keep on complaining about a lack of stamp sales after the robots enslave everyone.
