Germans educated under the Hitler Youth regime, are in some cases still Nazi's to this day.

It is very difficult to eliminate that brainwashing once inculcated.
The US also had similar in the late 30s....

Still a couple of my favorite posts during the Grump years. Personally I think for Republican voters that 2016-20 window were their "golden years." Hahaha it's pretty hilarious to say that, but quite true me thinks.

If one focuses purely on the policies it is possible to arguably forgive Trump his excesses in language.

However, the presidency is more than just the policies, it is also judgement and effectiveness. And these statements are troubling against the criteria of Trump's language.

Finally of course, he who succeeds by showmanship of words also will probably fail by showmanship of words unless they are very careful, and as his supporters are sometimes gleeful to point out, Trump is typically not careful.

So it does depend upon your perspective. As Trump makes more and more judgments errors in his statements, typically one would expect the body politic to become increasingly less forgiving. We will see if this holds true this time.

----------

I wouldn't want Trump as a neighbor any more than you would. He'd be the loud guy in the Hawaiian shirt who has an opinion on everything. However, that should not detract from his efficiency on the job or his being there in a neighborhood emergency. Trump was loud, opinionated and aggressive before he became president, but then, so was LBJ, architect of the Great Society, which liberal Democrats revere. There seems to be a double standard here.

Your argument is meaningless.
You don't want the loud-mouth guy, in the Hawaiian shirt, who can't keep his own countenance, as a neighbor, but you think this is the guy who should run the country. That is the inherent problem.

If Donald Trump dropped his pants and crapped on stage, his fans would cheer. --YT'er

That was more accurate than it deserved to be. ;)

I keep LOL at the "Big, Beautiful Bill" (+$4 trillion in debt) or during covid "Operation Warp Speed," which the latter I do think Trump should get credit for. The names he uses are so shallow and come across as another con for his gullible base. I remember when he said he loves the uneducated. Yeah you'd never say that unless there was a motive.

This is disgusting:

>>>Trump Pardoned Tax Cheat After Mother Attended $1 Million Dinner
Paul Walczak’s pardon application cited his mother’s support for the president, including raising millions of dollars and a connection to a plot to publicize a Biden family diary.

. . .

Mr. Walczak’s pardon application argued that his criminal prosecution was motivated more by his mother’s efforts for Mr. Trump than by his admitted use of money earmarked for employees’ taxes to fund an extravagant lifestyle.

Still, weeks went by and no pardon was forthcoming, even as Mr. Trump issued clemency grants to hundreds of other allies.
Then, Ms. Fago was invited to a $1-million-per-person fund-raising dinner last month that promised face-to-face access to Mr. Trump at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Fla.

Less than three weeks after she attended the dinner, Mr. Trump signed a full and unconditional pardon.

It came just in the nick of time for Mr. Walczak, sparing him from having to pay nearly $4.4 million in restitution and from reporting to prison for an 18-month sentence that had been handed down just 12 days earlier. A judge had justified the incarceration by declaring that there “is not a get-out-of-jail-free card” for the rich.<<<

Yes, Joe Biden's pardon of Hunter Biden was also disgusting.

Personally, I'd support reforms to limit the president's pardon power, but I doubt it will happen any time soon.

You, like me, have noticed how quiet the "drain the corrupted swamp" Trump apologists are after the election of Trump. Of course, no mention of their "budget deficit" and "out of control debt" "concern" either.

He never drained any swamps, of course. It was always just B.S. he fed to his base.

>>>Trump’s embrace of former lobbyists in his second term is a sharp pivot from his first campaign’s main promise to “drain the swamp.” Davis added that loyalty is a top priority for Trump 2.0 as well.<<<

As far as I can tell, his base doesn't actually care about corruption, provided the corruption is tied to causes they support.

And more pardons.

>>>President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he’s planning to pardon TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, famous for “Chrisley Knows Best,” a reality show that followed their tight-knit family and extravagant lifestyle that prosecutors said was boosted by bank fraud and hiding earnings from tax authorities.

The Chrisleys were convicted in 2022 of conspiring to defraud banks in the Atlanta area out of more than $30 million in loans by submitting false documents. They were also found guilty of tax evasion, obscuring their earnings while showcasing a luxurious way of living that authorities said included high-priced cars, designer clothes, real estate and travel.<<<

Ignore the evidence and assert that the prosecutors were politically motivated, and bingo, it's pardon time!

But, state the truth (the 2020 election wasn't rigged), and you are investigated.

>>>The officials declined to specify why Mr. Krebs was under investigation, nor did they indicate which agencies were conducting the inquiry. The disclosure came three weeks after Mr. Trump, in an act of score settling and intimidation, directed the Justice Department to investigate Mr. Krebs.<<<

Examples, meaning I wasn't the only one LOL....

Assholes: a theory of Donald Trump

>>>Make America Great Again? Donald Trump is an asshole is a fact widely agreed upon—even by his supporters, who actually like that about him.<<<

Asshole Nation: Trump and the Rise of Scum America
The Toddler in Chief
Donald Trump is a Jerk: Donald Trump is a jerk. Donald Trump is a jerk. Donald Trump is a jerk.

Edit: welp, that should kill any conversation. :p
Funny thing on the Assholes a theory book is it was published in 2012 and when Trump became president he just refashioned it LOL.
