My wonderful wife bought me a MiniDSP UMIK-1 microphone from Cross-Spectrum Labs...probably because I get her stuff she wants:D...but now I have to learn REW also. I'm too lazy for this crap.

These are my objectives.

  1. Learn to load up my MP3 player with tunes off my laptop.
  2. Learn to use the sound card to play tunes off the laptop.
  3. Learn to run YPAO and use the memory settings.
  4. Learn to use REW
  5. Learn to use the Behringer DEQ2496.
There are a couple of other things but 5 is my favorite number.

Either you old farts need help with the fancy electronics, Asian Technical Support is now available. Only $14.99/30 mins, but Alex should be used to those kinds of phone rates anyhow :D

Rick would have considered that a bargain back in the days before he discovered that he could just call an Asian restaurant and pretend like he was ordering.

... but look, you just plug it in!

UMIK-1 setup with REW | MiniDSP

I went to hook up my sound card and moved the speaker amps around. It looks a little cleaner but in regards to REW I'm as dumb as ever ... and the sound card still isn't plugged in. When I plug the digital coax into the rec'r the fiber optic fed CD ceases to function. The manual might help ... or at least going into the menu options for assignments ... or just listening to some Adele on vinyl which ain't gettin' sh!t done other than what I got into all this for to begin with. I think I need that Music Hall Phono Pre-amp. I think the phono stage of the 2600 isn't quite up to snuff when I crank it to -5 or so but since I rarely do that I think I might be able to bear it a little longer ... Are-EEEEE-What? Oh yeah, REW ... yeah, right on it. ADD rocks.

Alex, I really should try REW as well, but I lack the motivation and patience...and maybe the brainpower:eek:....to do it.

REW is easy enough to use for basic measuring. The major issues are usually in setup and configuration to make sure you're getting accurate results.

So, Fuzz - when are you going to hold your REW Seminar? And, yes, I spelled that right. :D

You know, it started out as a joke, but you could do it. Having folks meet in person could be a hassle, but video conferencing is easy.

I just downloaded Skype the other day ;)

I'd be happy to help anyone that needed it and using Skype would actually be 100 times easier than e-mailing back and forth since seeing what a person is seeing helps a lot troubleshooting. The UMIK makes things pretty easy though. IIRC, all you need to do is make sure that your sound card supports whatever sampling rate you want to use and then make sure REW and the UMIK are both on the same sampling rate. Upload the cal file, do a little SPL calibration and some volume stuff and you're more or less ready to start measuring.

Don't beat yourself up. You apparently finished it over nine years ago.

That was closer to the start date. :D I just had the girl using the living room 7.2 set up to try out the DRC in the early morning hours. It's all good. I think this is the first time that I'm in here with that system being used out there. Looking at the blue lights makes me love Kurt long time. What an amp.

The time stamp on the camera was set before. I don't know how it came undone but I reset it. I think the screwy time stamp messed with Photobucket as well but it's back on track now. Maybe if I knew more about my camera I would know more about my camera.

Very nice 7.2
I'll bet you wish you had some sound panels in there.

I am happy to have had them in here. ;)
I am also happy to have them out of here. :D

There's only so much going on at the levels I listen at and I like having the room look somewhat normal. I finally have my outlets and wiring all tidy. It would all be ivory but that's fallen out of fashion at HD.

You'd think I'd be tired of this by now but since Swerd bullied me into taking the MB27s to a DIY meet I took the opportunity to clean this up some. Here's the empty mount. I wish I had just used regular binding posts but I slammed this together with parts and pieces I had laying about.

Due to the time of day I wasn't able to get a decent shot of the whole thing so here's the R&L action with the window only washing out 3/4 of the pic's.

As you can imagine the other side of the room is a complete mess.
