I put my ear directly on the rear terminus port, and shoot there is so little coming out of there, it is sad..!
...that's... a good thing.

Just a question when are these KEF R's supposed to be available for actual listening at a dealer ?
The High Gloss Black is coming in some volume in Dec. 2011, with Walnut and Rosewood following in Jan. 2012 time frame.

Check w/ your local dealer, as it will vary based upon your location. Like our dealer here won't be getting any R Series, just the Q's that he has now. He states no mkt. for the R Series do to prices being much higher than they can sale in their mkt. and doesn't want to get stuck with stock.

I am hoping my friend a KEF distributor is going to drop me off two R900's for a couple weeks and I will buy the drinks, and break them in with some Pink Floyd. :):D

Then putting them up against the wall won't do a darn thing! Louder off the Klipsch Fronts with dual ports.

What is your expert suggestion, garbage can but they won't fit. :)

Have you asked "your friend" what the distributor mark-up is on the speaker?

Understood. My question is, does he even know what he likes? Is he going about this the correct way? "Phase 1" should also include at least some listening. Like I asked before, why did he purchase his current set of speakers?
I don't look at it in terms of "correct" and "incorrect".

If I were DenPureSound, my first step is to "weed out" all the speakers that do not have a great on-axis and off-axis frequency response and low THD+N.

At this point, I still would not know which speakers sound the best to me.

Then I would go audition those speakers.

At this point, I would pretty much know which speakers sound the best to me.

Then I would compare prices.

Then I would buy.

Does DenPureSound know what sounds best to him? Of course, he does. We all do!

Can he describe this sound?

Sure.

We all want the same great sound, don't we?:D

Crystal clear and smooth sound on lows, mids, and highs. Great resolution and details. Tight accurate bass. Wide and convincing soundstage.

His Klipsch speakers are typical casual speakers that sound pretty good. But they won't fit that description I just gave - at least not to some of us.

IOW, his Klipsch speakers are not "dream speakers" in the $5K-$6K retail price range, such as the KEF R900, PSB Synchrony One, Paradigm S6, Revel F32, KEF 201/2, etc.

Why did I purchase those Radio Shack speakers a long time ago?

Why did I purchase those $200 Pioneer speakers a long time ago?

Why did I purchase those NHT SuperZero speakers back then?

Why did I purchase those DefTech speakers back then?

It seemed like a good idea at the time.:D

Did you check with your local dealer regarding when he will have R Series there?

Hopefully, he will get some R900's the Big Boys! :D

Hey Grant,

Your mailbox is totally full there, you must delete some of them...

I am trying to send you a PM. Some more data on the R Series, you will enjoy or maybe not. :D

Cheers,
Den

What speakers would you set aside there? Are you going after Stereo Front Mains, or HT setup?

The R900 to me sure looks like a Serious Big Bold Statement, ready for business! :):D

Of course, so do the Paradigm Signature S8's !!

As I told you before, what I want is simple. I want my speakers sound similar to what I hear in concert halls, I mean classical symphony orchestras. I am going to another one tonight. My current system is getting close but I want it to get closer and that's why I am considering another speaker upgrade.

I still find DPS going about it the logical way. He is still going to listen to his final candidates anyway before making a final decision.

Exactly, as in the end with the PsychoAcoustic issues at hand, one always will have to Audition the speaker he/she decides on. I really would not even worry about it for a couple hundred bucks or so.. but when your shooting for your Dream Speakers, and the costs are in the thousands, you better drive the car per say, and take your sweet time, as there is plenty of time to perform due diligence for each and every phase. Even then, there is no guarantee that will be your last speakers either.

Not going the direct internet route, with the UPS return label and having to pay the return shipping costs which can run into $100+.

With extensive Auditioning one is going to get closer to his/her wishes. :)

Peng, have you Auditioned the Paradigm S6 or S8's? They are big dollars as well, but how did you like them vs. say the PSB Synchrony Ones as we wait to see how the KEF R Series measures from 3rd party tests?

At the moment I just want to listen to them. I have some older Kef's R103/3 and K140's in the upstairs room that still sound very nice to my old ears.

But once a certain person gets his PHil3's and I get a review, I could be ordering the Phil 2's after the first of the year.

I am going to put the front Klipsch RF-82II's towers in another room, and most likely move the Classias into a wide position in that room.

Then put the new KEF R900's or ? what ever speaker it is that we select for our Dream Pair up front in the main audio room and drive them with the Denon AVR-4311CI/EMO XPA-5 combo.

I'm eager to get my brand new shiny high-gloss red mahogany Philharmonic 3. :D

Yesterday I was playing with my Motorola Xoom tablet to serve/control music to my AVP-A1HDCI and Salon2.

Today it's the Orion and 201/2.:D

Hopefully my Xoom can serve music to my Denon AVR-5308CI and Philharmonic 3 by Christmas. :D
