Thanks, 'Isolar', I think my point is a good one: why invest in the gear if the data falls short. Is there some other way I can put this question more directly?

I see your point...
I get a good laugh over on AVS when users sweat bullets over buying a television with the best possible specs, only to watch nothing but garbage quality streaming on it.
Makes zero sense to me.
So no, there is no point. (in that case at least)
Heh, while I mostly watch streaming content I like the wide viewing angle of my LG OLED. That was a major reason as to why I held on to my old plasma for so long and not buying LCD.

You don't have to steam...I don't, and never will.
I knew even back in the 70's that no system was any better than its source material.

If you can afford the gear, you usually can afford the better sources.

The gear is not an investment but consumption.

Haha, yeah (see my gear), if I watch only BluRay discs. But's that not what you or I do, I'm guessing. Be honest!

May I say, that, in my opinion, this forum is totally worthless. But that is not surprising, so are most of these. Goodbye all.

You really came on here and acted like a prize "twot". Your first post was incomprehensible and looked as if it came from a bot. We have had some bots lately.

We certainly don't tolerate fools gladly here, and I certainly don't. You have put yourself well into that category in the space of an afternoon or less, and rated high up that category to boot.

I really don't think you could contribute anything useful to these forums, so your early exit relieves us from wasting time with you.

It might have helped if you could actually formulate a coherent question. It took quite a while and some teeth pulling for people to even get you to tell us the gist of what you were trying to ask. But that didn't really happen until page 2:

Thanks, 'Isolar', I think my point is a good one: why invest in the gear if the data falls short. Is there some other way I can put this question more directly?
But the answer is no, you don't need the highest end equipment to get the most from streaming sources. They are by nature compressed streams and you will lose something over watching on a disc.

For movies/shows where picture and/or audio quality are important to me, I will always opt for physical media over streaming if available. I invested in the gear I did for when the source doesn't fall short, not for the lowest common denominator (compressed streams).
