Yes, it's crazy what Gamers Nexus has uncovered. This goes well beyond ACR (automatic content recognition) and includes scanning of other devices on your network. Even if you unplug the ethernet cord, can you trust the TV not to use WiFi and hack into your local network? LG was the top recommended brand for years for excellent picture quality and decent reliability. Now we learn that they are just another evil corporate entity harvesting our data with the no regard for privacy or security. I wonder what a future investigation of Samsung will turn up?

If politicians really cared about the public, there is such an easy fix. Make all data collection opt-in only by law. All data collection should be off by default and only enabled if accepted after providing a plain English set of terms and conditions, and not some 800 page pile of legal gibberish. And if data collection is declined then it needs to be off local to the device, not just stored locally but not transmitted.

LG and others will pay a fine, millions but they'll still make billions. Like paying a speeding ticket. @Eppie <Your absolutely right it really is an easy fix. Laws are needed to protect consumers. These electronic companies (spying) has gotten way out of hand. From Roku to cellphones.

Apps track, sell off data, advertisement is very big business. Manufactures of tv's. ALL of them say, they use that "free" money to offset the cost of manufacturing tv's because they don't make much off of the sets they sell us. I say BS! Google states, they use that "free" money to off set the cost for maintenance of their platform on Google tv's.

What about your TV remotes? Has like what, 4 to 6 big advertisement buttons on it with the likes of Netflix, Prime etc: Those tv manufacturers get money from streaming services for those buttons of prime real-estate. Don't kid yourself streaming services pass that cost on to You! Lol, by raising the cost of signing up for there services. Lol. Now consumers are buying tv's just to have a huge advertising billboard their home. And now they are Spying (listening) in and recording everything, even when your set is off.
