I recently had to change homeowners insurance. When I had the problem in the past, they were fantastic. I gave them every opportunity, both through the agent and directly, to modify their quoted rate. I would have loved to stay with them, but they suddenly became way too expensive, maybe from being a little too fantastic? It was a substantial price difference, which I may regret some day in the future.

Insurance rates usually aren't a negotiable item. IMO, you did the correct thing by shopping rates as they change often. If the new company is as fiscally sound, the coverages identical, and the rate lower, it was a wise move. Insurance companies have no more loyalty to you than the man in the moon.....you're just 0's & 1's in a computer. In a couple of years (more or less) your new company may become less competetive and you might end up back where you started.

I forgot my worst beef with insurance fraud. Crooked body shops/mechanics. There is a reason insurance companies hire appraisers. Today we received two estimates for the same vehicle. One from our appraiser and one from the shop. Our appraiser was there for the teardown and provided an estimate to us for about $2800. The shops appraisal? Wait for it......$15,802.00. It is a damn front bumper impact and some sheet metal repair. They are claiming 2K in required paint. The bumper is steel, black, and comes painted. The shop had the guts to try and claim muffler damage! On a front end impact! Dear lord smite the body shops and all who dwell within the body shops.

Reminds me of getting a quote on a replacement windshield. Insurance, $500, cash $189.50.

My girlfriend got rear ended, she drives a Cavalier, hit by a Silverado. The shop price for insurance was $3900, the driver of the Silverado paid cash $1800 and then got his 15% discount as a GM employee. I can go on and on and on and on and on about people taking advantage of the insurance industy. I can do the reverse as well. I've seen adjusters go after people because they don't like a tone that was taken with them, I've seen claims get settled for well less than the company deserves, tons of fun. All I do is stay honest and keep telling myself that if I do my job right I'm helping both sides. I really do like my job, but there are some scummy aspects.
