Steve "The Colonel" Cropper has passed at 84. Truly one of the greatest guitarist of all time (ranked #2 in one poll behind Hendrix) he has a career spanning 60 years. He began at Stax/Volt records in Memphis in 1962 as part of the house band, Booker T and the MGs. They had a big instrumental hit with Green Onions that year. The band played on most of the Stax/Volt hits of the sixties including Otis Redding, Sam and Dave and Wilson Pickett and many others. Cropper had writing credits on many hits which I believe provided good income down the years. He may be best remembered for playing lead guitar for the Blues Brothers on albums and in the movies. He made many other great records. I especially like "Dedicated" ca 2012 which had covers of the "5 Royales" who influenced him greatly. When Keith Richards was asked about Cropper he replied "perfect." I suggest you check out his wikipedia page for all the info and the very long discography. He was never showy but always fit in with whoever he was playing with. Over 60 years that was a lot of people.
